The Blessed One said to the venerable Sharadvatiputra: Sharadvatiputra, although Bodhisattvas see all dharmas as different, that is so in conventional truth, but not so in ultimate truth. Sharadvatiputra asked: Blessed One, how is it so in conventional truth, but not so in ultimate truth? The Blessed One said: Sharadvatiputra, when a Bodhisattva thinks, 'What are the worldly virtuous dharmas?' He thinks like this: for example, giving, offering, asceticism, Brahmin, respecting the leader of the lineage, the merit-making object arising from giving, that arising from morality, that arising from meditation, merit endowed with service, merit endowed with skillful means, the paths of the ten virtuous actions, the worldly perception of swelling, the perception of being eaten by worms, the perception of being bluish, the perception of being festering, the perception of being discolored, the perception of being eaten, the perception of being scattered, the perception of a skeleton, the perception of being burned, likewise the four dhyanas, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, mindfulness of the Buddha, mindfulness of the Dharma, mindfulness of the Sangha, mindfulness of morality, mindfulness of generosity, mindfulness of the gods, mindfulness of peace, mindfulness of breathing in and out, mindfulness of the elements, mindfulness of the body, and mindfulness of death. He thinks: 'These are the worldly virtuous dharmas.' What are the non-virtuous dharmas? He thinks like this: for example, killing, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, covetousness, malice, wrong view, anger, resentment, concealment, indignation, harm, slander.

Jealousy, stinginess, and pride, I think these are unwholesome dharmas. Then, what are the unspecified dharmas? I think, like this: unspecified bodily actions, unspecified verbal actions, unspecified mental actions, unspecified four great elements, unspecified five faculties, unspecified five aggregates, twelve sources, eighteen realms, and the ripening result, I think these are the unspecified dharmas. Then, what are the supramundane dharmas? I think, like this: the four mindfulnesses, the four right abandonments, the four legs of magical power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path, the three doors of liberation, the faculty of making the unknown known, the faculty of knowing everything, the faculty endowed with knowing everything, the concentration with investigation and analysis, the concentration without investigation but only analysis, the concentration without investigation and analysis, from the emptiness of the internal to the emptiness of the nature of non-things, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddha, I think these are the supramundane dharmas. Then, what are the dharmas with outflows? The five aggregates belonging to the three realms, the twelve sources, the eighteen realms, the four concentrations, the four immeasurables, and the four formless absorptions, these are called dharmas with outflows. Then, what are the dharmas without outflows? The four mindfulnesses, and so on, up to the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddha, these are the dharmas without outflows. Then, what are the conditioned dharmas? Like this: the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm.

Likewise, the five aggregates, the four dhyanas, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, the four mindfulnesses, up to the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, should be similarly applied. These are conditioned dharmas. What are unconditioned dharmas? Those dharmas that have no birth, no abiding, no cessation, no alteration, and likewise, the exhaustion of desire, the exhaustion of hatred, the exhaustion of delusion, and likewise, the abiding nature of dharma, the nature of dharma, the realm of dharma, the faultless nature of dharma, suchness, non-erroneous suchness, non-other suchness, the ultimate reality. These are called unconditioned dharmas. What are the common dharmas? For example, the four dhyanas, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, the five superknowledges. These are the common dharmas with ordinary beings. What are the dharmas that are not common with ordinary beings? The thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, the three doors of liberation, up to the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. These are called unshared dharmas. Shariputra, in this way, in conventional truth, bodhisattvas see all dharmas as different, but in ultimate truth, they do not cling to them. How do they not cling? Shariputra, for example, someone sees an army conjured by illusion, with four components: elephant troops, cavalry, chariots, and infantry. He does not cling to it, thinking it is a real army. Shariputra, likewise, bodhisattva mahasattvas see all dharmas as different, but they do not cling to them. Shariputra, for example, someone tormented by heat sees various mirages,
