And, it is the place to fall into the realm of animals and the world of Yama. Therefore, you should not generate any anger, fighting mind, or harmful intent, let alone give opportunities to other unwholesome minds, thus teaching the Dharma. Similarly, for those lazy beings, they should be encouraged to practice diligence; for those whose minds are distracted, they should be encouraged to practice concentration; for those whose wisdom is perverse, they should be encouraged to practice wisdom; for those who are consumed by desire, they should be encouraged to practice contemplating impurity; for those who have gone astray, they should be guided onto the right path, either the path of the Hearers, the path of the Solitary Buddhas, or the path of the Buddhas. All those dharmas that you cling to are empty of inherent existence. One cannot cling to dharmas that are empty of inherent existence, because emptiness itself has no clinging. Thus, he teaches them the Dharma. Subhuti, that is how a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, abides in supernormal knowledges, and benefits beings. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, without abiding in supernormal knowledges, cannot teach the Dharma to beings, nor can he guide beings who have gone astray onto the right path, because there is no place to abide. Subhuti, for example, a bird without wings cannot fly in the sky. Subhuti, similarly, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, without relying on supernormal knowledges, cannot teach the Dharma to beings. Subhuti, therefore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, should accomplish supernormal knowledges, because having accomplished supernormal knowledges, he can easily accomplish whatever he desires to benefit beings. With his divine eye, he can see as many world realms as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River. He can also see the beings who are born in those worlds. He can see them.

Moreover, through miraculous powers, he goes to those places and understands the minds of those beings with his mind. Having understood, he teaches the Dharma with words of generosity, or words of ethics, or words of the noble truths, or words up to complete liberation from suffering. He also hears the sounds of humans and non-humans with his divine ear. In the eastern world realms as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, he also hears with his divine ear all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who teach the Dharma. Having heard, he also grasps it as it is. Having grasped it as it is, he also teaches the Dharma to sentient beings with words of generosity, or words up to liberation from suffering. He possesses the knowledge of mental distinctions that is extremely pure. With that knowledge of mental distinctions, he knows the minds of sentient beings, and he teaches them the Dharma with words of generosity, or words up to complete liberation from suffering. He remembers many former existences of himself and others. With that knowledge of remembering former existences, he also clearly knows that in the past there were Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, with such and such names, and with so many assemblies of hearers. To those sentient beings who are fond of remembering former existences, he also teaches the Dharma with words of generosity, or words up to complete liberation from suffering. Through miraculous powers, he goes to many different world realms to attend upon the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and there he generates roots of virtue from those Buddhas, the Bhagavat. Having generated roots of virtue, he also returns to that same world realm. He possesses the knowledge of the exhaustion of defilements that is extremely pure. With that extremely pure knowledge of the direct realization of the exhaustion of defilements, he teaches the Dharma to sentient beings with words of generosity, or words up to complete liberation from suffering. Subhuti, that is how a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices in the Perfection of Wisdom.
