Parents, sons, and daughters, I say to you, I will quickly deliver you from this fear and dread. Do not be afraid! Do not be afraid! Having bestowed fearlessness in this way, in that wilderness monastery, when that person's enemies, killers, and many adversaries were near, that person also became endowed with the power of sacred wisdom. He led his parents, sons, and daughters out of that wilderness monastery, delivered them, unharmed and undamaged, and then returned to a village, or town, or region, or place, feeling joyful and content, but also without harboring resentment towards the adversaries and hostile beings. Why is that? Because, in this way, he was skilled in all the arts of illusion. Because in that wilderness monastery, he conjured up other adversaries who were more numerous, more courageous, with stronger weapons, and of greater scale than the adversaries and enemies, and with that fear, he eliminated those adversaries. Then, that person completely liberated his parents, sons, and daughters, and caused them to live in peace. Subhuti, similarly, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva also dwells pervading all sentient beings with a mind focused on loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, even in the intermediate state, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not label with characteristics, nor does he manifest any signless samadhi that, by manifesting, would cause one to abide in the ground of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha. Subhuti, for example, just as a bird, flying in the sky does not fall to the ground, and flying in the sky of the sky, it does not stay and rely on it. Subhuti, similarly, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva also becomes completely familiar with emptiness and acts in emptiness, and becomes completely familiar with the signless and the wishless, and acts in the signless and the wishless, but by manifesting what, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, and the distinct individual knowledges.

And four, great love and great compassion, and by practicing the immeasurable and countless dharmas of the Buddhas, one will attain omniscience. Before these are completely perfected, one will not directly realize emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, which would cause one to fall into the level of a Hearer or a Solitary Realizer. Subhuti, it is like this: For example, a powerful person who is a master of archery, who is very skilled in archery, shoots an arrow high into the sky, and after shooting the arrow high into the sky, he also uses other arrows to continuously follow the previous arrow, not allowing it to fall to the ground. As long as that person does not wish it, those arrows will not fall to the ground. Then, if he thinks, 'These arrows should fall to the ground,' and does not shoot the following arrow high into the sky, then the previous continuous arrows will fall to the ground. Subhuti, similarly, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is skilled in the use of skillful means and practices the Perfection of Wisdom, then as long as the roots of virtue of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment have not fully matured, he will not directly realize the true ultimate limit. When the roots of virtue of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment have fully matured, then he will directly realize the true ultimate limit. Subhuti, therefore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should thus truly examine the nature of these dharmas. Having spoken thus, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices this nature of dharma, practices the true limit, practices suchness, practices the realm of dharma, practices emptiness that transcends limits, practices emptiness of self-nature, and practices the three doors of liberation, even in the intermediate stage, he will not regress from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, which is very difficult. Bhagavan, it is truly wonderful! O Blessed One!
