Therefore, that which is unborn is not the perfection of giving. Kauśika! The perfection of morality, and the perfection of patience, and the perfection of diligence, and the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom are also unborn. Whatever is unborn is not the perfection of wisdom. Kauśika! Inner emptiness is also unborn. Whatever is unborn is not inner emptiness. Kauśika! The emptiness of the nature of non-things is also unborn. Whatever is unborn is not the emptiness of the nature of non-things. Kauśika! The mindfulnesses are also unborn. Whatever is unborn is not the mindfulnesses. Kauśika! Similarly, the right abandonments, and the miraculous feet, and the faculties, and the powers, and the limbs of enlightenment, and the noble eightfold path are also unborn. Whatever is unborn is not the path. Kauśika! Similarly, the ten powers, and the four fearlessnesses, and the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha are also unborn. Whatever is unborn is not the qualities of a Buddha. Kauśika! The fruit of stream-entry is unborn. Whatever is unborn is not the fruit of stream-entry. Kauśika! The fruit of once-returner, and the fruit of non-returner, and Arhatship, and Pratyekabuddhahood are also unborn. Whatever is unborn is not Pratyekabuddhahood. Kauśika! Omniscience, and knowledge of the aspects of the path, and even knowledge of all aspects are also unborn. Whatever is unborn is not knowledge of all aspects. Kauśika!

Even the Buddhas who have matured have certainly not been born. Whatever has certainly not been born is not the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha. Then the Lord of the Gods, Indra, thought to himself: Alas! This venerable Subhuti does not contradict designation, and his teaching of the nature of reality is profound wisdom! He thought. Then the Blessed One said to the Lord of the Gods, Indra: Kausika, it is so, it is so. Alas, Subhuti does not contradict designation, and his teaching of the nature of reality is profound wisdom! Then the Lord of the Gods, Indra, said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how does the venerable Subhuti not contradict designation and teach the nature of reality? The Blessed One said: Kausika, form is merely a designation, and whatever is a designation is the nature of reality. Therefore, Subhuti teaches without contradicting it. Kausika, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are merely designations, and whatever is a designation is the nature of reality. Therefore, Subhuti teaches without contradicting it. Why is that? Because whatever is the nature of reality is without contradiction, and whatever is without contradiction, Subhuti teaches it and makes it non-contradictory. Kausika, likewise, the elements and the sources, likewise, the perfection of generosity, the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, the perfection of wisdom, likewise, inner emptiness and the emptiness of the nature of non-things, likewise, the mindfulnesses, the right abandonments, the feet of magical power, the faculties, the powers, the branches of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path, the ten powers, the fearlessnesses, the separate correct knowledges, the eighteen unmixed qualities of a Buddha, likewise, the fruit of entering the stream, the fruit of once returning.

The fruit of non-returner, as well as the Arhat, the Pratyekabuddha, and similarly, the stream-enterer are also just designations. Kausika, the once-returner, the non-returner, the Arhat, the Pratyekabuddha, and the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha are also just designations. Whatever is a designation, that is the nature of Dharma, so Subhuti teaches without contradicting it. Why is that? Kausika, whatever is the nature of Dharma, that is without contradiction. Whatever is without contradiction, Subhuti teaches and does not contradict it. Kausika, in this way, Subhuti neither contradicts the designation nor teaches the nature of Dharma. Subhuti said: Kausika, it is so, it is so. Just as the Blessed One has taught that all dharmas are merely designations, so it is. Kausika, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having thus understood all dharmas as merely designations, should train in the Prajnaparamita. Kausika, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who trains in this way does not train in form. He does not train in feeling, perception, formation, or consciousness. Why is that? Because in this way, he does not truly see the form to be trained in, nor does he truly see the feeling, perception, formation, or consciousness to be trained in. Kausika, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who trains in this way does not train in the perfection of giving. Why is that? Because in this way, he does not truly see the perfection of giving to be trained in. Similarly, he does not train in the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, or the perfection of wisdom. Why is that? Because in this way, he does not truly see the perfection of wisdom to be trained in. He also does not train in inner emptiness. He also does not train up to the emptiness of the essence of non-things. Why is that?
