Chapter Twenty-Four: The Limitless Chapter Twenty-Four: The Limitless Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, thought to himself: "In order to make offerings to the Venerable Subhuti, who is showering the rain of Dharma and teaching, I should manifest some flowers. With these flowers, I will make offerings to the Buddha, the Bhagavan, the Arhat, the Samyaksambuddha, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, the Sangha of Bhikshus, the Venerable Subhuti, and the Prajnaparamita. I should manifest them, I should scatter them, I should utterly scatter them." All the sons of the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings in the three-thousand great-thousand world realm, and the sons of the gods between Akanistha, All of them also thought to themselves: "In order to make offerings to the Venerable Subhuti, who is showering the rain of Dharma and teaching, we should manifest some flowers. With these flowers, we will make offerings to the Buddha, the Bhagavan, the Arhat, the Samyaksambuddha, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, the Sangha of Bhikshus, the Venerable Subhuti, and the Prajnaparamita. We should manifest them, we should scatter them, we should utterly scatter them." Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, and all the sons of the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings in the three-thousand great-thousand world realm, and the sons of the gods between Akanistha, manifested divine Mandarava flowers. With these flowers, they made offerings to the Bhagavan, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, the Sangha of Bhikshus, the Venerable Subhuti, and this Prajnaparamita. They scattered them, manifested them, utterly scattered them. As soon as the Lord of the Gods, Indra, and the sons of the gods between Akanistha, scattered those flowers, this three-thousand great-thousand world realm was strewn with flowers, and in the sky above, there were also delightful and pleasing flower pavilions everywhere. Then, the Venerable Subhuti thought to himself: "Such flowers as these, which have been scattered by the sons of the gods, I have never before in the realm of the gods

Nowhere have I seen them used. These flowers scattered by the gods are not born from branches, nor are they born from water, nor are they born from the ground; these flowers are emanations. These flowers scattered by the gods are born from the mind; I think they are not born from branches. Then the Lord of the Gods, Indra, said to the venerable Subhuti: Venerable Subhuti, these flowers are not born from the mind, nor are they born from branches; these flowers are unborn. Subhuti said: Kausika, to say that these flowers are not born from the mind, nor are they born from branches, that these flowers are certainly unborn, Kausika, whatever is certainly unborn, those are not flowers. Indra said: Venerable Subhuti, are these flowers merely certainly unborn? Or is form also certainly unborn, and are feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness also certainly unborn? Subhuti said: Kausika, these flowers are not only unborn, Kausika, form is also certainly unborn; whatever is certainly unborn, that is not form. Kausika, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are also certainly unborn; whatever is certainly unborn, that is not consciousness. Kausika, the eye is also certainly unborn; whatever is certainly unborn, that is not the eye. Kausika, the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind are also certainly unborn; whatever is certainly unborn, that is not the mind. Kausika, the earth element is also certainly unborn; whatever is certainly unborn, that is not the earth element. Kausika, the water element, the fire element, the wind element, the space element, and the consciousness element are also certainly unborn; whatever is certainly unborn, that is not the consciousness element. Kausika, the perfection of giving is also certainly unborn.
