Having completely transcended the sphere of infinite space, thinking, "Consciousness is infinite," one cultivates and dwells in the sphere of infinite consciousness. Completely transcending the sphere of infinite consciousness in every way, thinking, "There is nothing at all," one cultivates and dwells in the sphere of nothingness. Completely transcending the sphere of nothingness in every way, one cultivates and dwells in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Completely transcending the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception in every way, one cultivates and dwells in the cessation of perception and feeling. These are the nine successive meditative absorptions. From emptiness of internal phenomena to emptiness of the essence of non-things, as well as the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, these are called supramundane dharmas. What are the dharmas with outflows? These are, for example, the five aggregates, the twelve sources, the eighteen elements, the four dhyanas, the four immeasurables, and the four formless absorptions. These are called dharmas with outflows. What are the dharmas without outflows? These are the four mindfulnesses, the four right abandonments, the four legs of miraculous power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, the noble eightfold path, the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and up to the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. These are called dharmas without outflows. What are the conditioned dharmas? The desire realm, the form realm, the formless realm, and any other dharmas that belong to the conditioned, including the thirty-seven dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, and up to the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. These are called conditioned dharmas. What are the unconditioned dharmas? Those dharmas for which arising, ceasing, and alteration are not apparent, such as the cessation of desire, the cessation of hatred, and the cessation of delusion.

Suchness, non-erroneous suchness, non-other suchness, the nature of phenomena, the realm of phenomena, the abiding nature of phenomena, the faultless nature of phenomena, the ultimate reality. These are called unconditioned dharmas. What are the common dharmas among them? The four dhyanas, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, and the five supernormal cognitions. These are called common dharmas. What are the uncommon dharmas among them? The thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, the three doors of liberation, and up to the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. These are called uncommon dharmas. Among these, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, because there is no conceptualization or investigation of all phenomena, there is no attachment to phenomena that are empty of their own nature, and one should train as if they do not exist. All phenomena should be understood as being of a non-dual nature. Then, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Bhagavan, for what reason is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva called a Bodhisattva Mahasattva?" The Blessed One replied: "Subhuti, because they will accomplish the great mass of sentient beings and become the foremost of many kinds of sentient beings, therefore they are called Bodhisattva Mahasattvas." Subhuti asked: "Bhagavan, what is the great assembly of sentient beings that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva will accomplish? What are the many kinds of sentient beings?" The Blessed One replied: "Subhuti, the great assembly of sentient beings refers to those on the lineage ground, the eighth ground, those who have entered the stream, those who return once, those who do not return, Arhats, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas who have generated the mind for the first time, and up to Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who abide on the irreversible ground. Subhuti, that is the great assembly of sentient beings.

and the many kinds of sentient beings, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva will become their leader. Therefore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should generate the diamond-like mind, and become the leader of the great host of sentient beings and the many kinds of sentient beings. Subhuti asked: "Bhagavan, what is the generation of the diamond-like mind?" The Bhagavan replied: "Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should generate the mind in this way: In immeasurable cycles of existence, I shall don armor for the sake of all sentient beings. I shall completely give away all possessions. I shall generate equanimity towards all sentient beings. I shall completely liberate all sentient beings from suffering through the three vehicles. Even though all sentient beings are completely liberated from suffering, yet no sentient being is truly liberated from suffering, I shall realize that all dharmas are without arising and without ceasing. I shall practice the six perfections with a mind that is not mixed with the mind of all-knowingness. I shall train in the complete accomplishment of realizing the dharmas that follow all. I shall realize that dharmas are accomplished in one aspect. I shall train in order to realize the accomplishment of practicing immeasurable dharmas. Thus, he generates the mind. Subhuti, this is the diamond-like generation of the mind of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Abiding in this, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva will become the leader of the great host of sentient beings and the many kinds of sentient beings, and he will do so in a way that is without object of reference. Subhuti, furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should generate the mind in this way: For the sake of those sentient beings who are born in hell, in the place of animals, and in the world of Yama, whatever suffering they experience, I shall personally experience those sufferings. Thus, he generates the mind. Therefore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should generate a further mind in this way: I shall destroy those sentient beings'
