此菩萨摩诃萨常啼与商主之女一同前往她所居住的家中。之后，商主之女回到家中，对父母说道：父亲、母亲，请赐予我许多财物。黄金、白银、珍宝、宝物、衣服、鲜花、熏香、香料、花环、涂香、粉末、法衣、伞、幢、幡以及各种乐器，请赐予我。还有你们赐予我作为侍从的五百名女子，请允许我与她们一同供养菩萨摩诃萨常啼，以及般若波罗蜜多，并侍奉圣者菩萨摩诃萨法增。如果他为我们讲法，我们将获得不可思议的佛法。之后，那女儿的父母对女儿说道：女儿，你说的菩萨摩诃萨常啼是谁？现在在哪里？女儿说道：这位善男子就在我们家门外。这位善男子以极大的意乐，为了无上正等菩提而精进，为了使一切众生从无量轮回的痛苦中解脱出来，他寻求正法。他要卖掉自己的身体，以求得正法的法门——般若波罗蜜多，并侍奉圣者菩萨摩诃萨法增。但他找不到买他身体的人，因此他感到痛苦、不悦，内心沮丧，失望地哭泣着。天帝释迦化身为一个婆罗门童子的身体，为了试探他，说道：善男子，你为何如此痛苦、不悦，内心沮丧，失望地哭泣？他回答说：我要卖掉自己的身体，但没有人买。

Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Sadāprarudita went together with the merchant's daughter to the house where she lived. Then, the merchant's daughter went to her home and said to her parents: "Father, Mother, please grant me much wealth. Gold, silver, precious gems, jewels, clothes, flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, Dharma robes, umbrellas, banners, flags, and various kinds of musical instruments, please grant me to me. And these five hundred girls whom you have given me as attendants, please allow me, together with them, to make offerings to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Sadāprarudita and to the Prajñāpāramitā, and to attend upon the noble Bodhisattva Mahasattva Dharmoddgata. If he teaches us the Dharma, we will obtain inconceivable Buddha-Dharma." Then, the daughter's parents said to her: "Daughter, who is this Bodhisattva Mahasattva Sadāprarudita that you speak of? Where is he now?" The daughter said: "That noble son is near our gate. That noble son, with great enthusiasm, is striving for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. In order to liberate all sentient beings from the immeasurable suffering of samsara, he seeks the sacred Dharma. He wants to sell his body in order to obtain the Dharma of the sacred Dharma—the Prajñāpāramitā—and to attend upon the noble Bodhisattva Mahasattva Dharmoddgata. But he has not found anyone to buy his body, so he is suffering, displeased, and disheartened. He is disappointed and weeping. The lord of the gods, Indra, transformed himself into the body of a Brahmin boy, and in order to test him, said: 'Noble son, why are you suffering, displeased, disheartened, and weeping in disappointment?' He replied to him: 'I want to sell my body, but no one will buy it.'

贱种之子，你为何出卖我的身体？总是大哭不止地说道：为了供养般若波罗蜜多，以及为了侍奉圣者菩萨摩诃萨以法殊胜者。这也是为了想要佛法，对此我依赖于佛陀的教法。化为童子形象的帝释天说道：善男子，我不需要人，我正在做供养布施，在那里我需要人的心脏、血、骨头和骨髓。然后，那位善男子没有灰心，说道：那也布施。他拿起一把锋利的刀，刺穿我的肩膀，放出鲜血，大腿也被弄得没有肉，然后走到一堵墙边去敲碎骨头，心想：布施骨头和骨髓。我从屋顶上看到他流着血，心想：这个人正在做什么？这样对我自己造成伤害。于是我走到他面前，这样说道：善男子，你为何对我自己放血？然后，那位善男子对我这样说道：婆罗门童子，我将血、心脏、骨头和骨髓布施给这个人。为什么呢？因为我贫穷，没有其他的财富。对此我这样说道：那些财富对你有什么用？他对我说：为了供养般若波罗蜜多，以及为了想要佛法，为了侍奉圣者菩萨摩诃萨以法殊胜者。对此我这样说道：善男子，你从中能得到什么样的功德之类，以及功德的差别？他对我说：那将为我充分展示不可思议的佛法和佛陀的功德，并且将从中获得如来无量不可夺的佛法。我得到那些后，生起极大的欢喜和满足，听到那些不可思议的佛法后，我这样想：谁能做到像这样呢？这位善男子在行持苦行。

Baseborn son, why are you selling my body? Always weeping and saying: In order to make offerings to the Prajñāpāramitā, and in order to serve the noble Bodhisattva Mahāsattva who is superior in Dharma. This is also because I desire the Dharma, and I rely on the Buddha's teachings for that. Indra, who had transformed into the form of a boy, said: Noble son, I do not need a person, but I am performing a sacrificial offering. There I need a human heart, blood, bones, and marrow. Then, that noble son did not become discouraged, and said: I will give that too. He took a sharp knife and pierced my shoulder, drawing blood, and my thigh was also made without flesh. Then he went to the base of a wall to break bones, thinking: I will give bones and marrow. As I saw him bleeding from the rooftop, I thought: What is this person doing? He is harming himself in this way. So I went to him and said: Noble son, why are you drawing blood from yourself? Then, that noble son said to me: Brahmin boy, I am giving blood, heart, bones, and marrow to this person. Why? Because I am poor and have no other wealth. To that I said: What use are those riches to you? He said to me: In order to make offerings to the Prajñāpāramitā, and in order to desire the Dharma, in order to serve the noble Bodhisattva Mahāsattva who is superior in Dharma. To that I said: Noble son, what kind of qualities, and what differences in qualities, will arise from that for you? He said to me: That will fully reveal to me the inconceivable Dharma of the Buddha and the qualities of the Buddha, and from that I will obtain the immeasurable, unseizable Dharma of the Tathāgata. When I obtained that, great joy and satisfaction arose, and having heard those inconceivable Dharmas of the Buddha, I thought: Who is able to do such things? This noble son is practicing austerities.

太稀奇了！这位族子为了求法，尚且能舍弃自身，我们为何不供养此法？为何不于此等之处发愿？我们拥有极其广大的受用。我这样想后，对那位族子说了这番话：族子，你不要这样损害我。我将从父母那里求得许多财物来布施。你以此来承事般若波罗蜜多，以及圣者菩萨摩诃萨法增。我也将与你一同前往圣者菩萨摩诃萨法增所在之处，我也将供养那位族子。我也将如你所说，圆满证得这般直至无上正等觉的一切佛法。因此，父母将许多财物都给了我，我与这位族子一同前去供养圣者菩萨摩诃萨法增，您意下如何？《二万五千颂般若波罗蜜多》，第七十八品。之后，那位女儿的父母二人对女儿说了这番话：女儿，你所说的关于那位族子的话，真是太难得了！为了那超越一切世间，令一切众生安乐的法，那位族子所修持的这般苦行之法，也实在是不可思议。因此，女儿，我们允许你前去。我们也与你一同去瞻仰圣者菩萨摩诃萨法增，并供养他，请给我们机会。之后，那位女儿对想要前去供养和恭敬菩萨摩诃萨法增的父母二人说了这番话：我不会对任何人制造善行的障碍。之后，那位商主之女和她的父母等人装饰了五百辆马车，也装饰了那五百位女儿，以及各种鲜花。

It is so wonderful! This noble son is willing to give up his body for the sake of Dharma. Why shouldn't we make offerings to this Dharma? Why shouldn't we make aspirations in such places? We have vast and abundant possessions. Thinking this way, I said to that noble son: Noble son, do not harm me in this way. I will obtain much wealth from my parents and give it away. With that, you should serve the Prajñāpāramitā and the noble Bodhisattva-mahāsattva Dharma Increase. I will also go with you to the place where the noble Bodhisattva-mahāsattva Dharma Increase is, and I will also make offerings to that noble son. I will also, in this way, fully accomplish all the Buddha-dharmas that you have spoken of, up to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Therefore, my parents gave me much wealth, and I, together with this noble son, will go to make offerings to the noble Bodhisattva-mahāsattva Dharma Increase. What do you think? The Twenty-five Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā, Chapter Seventy-eight. Then, the parents of that daughter said to her: Daughter, what you have said about that noble son is very difficult. For the sake of the Dharma that transcends all worlds and brings happiness to all beings, the Dharma that the noble son practices with such hardship is also truly inconceivable. Therefore, daughter, we allow you to go. We will also go with you to see the noble Bodhisattva-mahāsattva Dharma Increase and make offerings to him. Please give us the opportunity. Then, that daughter said to her parents, who wanted to go to make offerings and show respect to the Bodhisattva-mahāsattva Dharma Increase: I will not create obstacles to virtue for anyone. Then, that merchant's daughter and her parents and others decorated five hundred chariots, and also decorated those five hundred daughters, as well as various flowers.
