Ah, that great Bodhisattva, by what causes and conditions does he draw near to those beings so that they do not become conceptual, and he draws near to them by such causes. Therefore, they cease to be conceptual, and enter into the first dhyana. They enter into the second dhyana, the third dhyana, and the fourth dhyana. They enter into loving-kindness. They enter into compassion, joy, and equanimity. They enter into the sphere of infinite space. They enter into the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, and the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. By these dhyanas, immeasurables, and formless absorptions, their minds become subdued, and they meditate on the four mindfulnesses. They cultivate the four right abandonments, the four miraculous feet, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path. They meditate on the three doors of liberation. By meditating on these, they gradually attain complete liberation from suffering through the three vehicles. Some of them do not fall away from the path of enlightenment until they reach unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Subhuti, thus, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of giving, and gathers beings completely through the perfection of concentration. Subhuti, how does the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva act in the perfection of giving, and gather beings completely through the perfection of wisdom? Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of giving, and when he sees beings whose wisdom has become corrupt, he says to them, 'Beings, why do you not cultivate wisdom?' They say, 'Because we do not possess the causes and conditions.' Then the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in the perfection of giving, and exhorts those beings thus: 'Take from me the necessary items, give alms, keep the precepts, cultivate patience, exert effort, and abide in concentration.' Discriminate and then indicate. When that Bodhisattva Mahāsattva practices the Prajñāpāramitā, regarding any dharma, with what as the object does he directly know, thus he does not fixate on any dharma, because there is no direct attachment to it, therefore he does not correctly see the arising or ceasing of any dharma, or defilement, or purification. Because he does not correctly see, this is a hell being, this is the birthplace of animals, this is the world of Yama, this belongs to the race of Asuras, this is a god, this is a human, this is one with morality, this is one with bad morality, this is a stream-enterer, this is a once-returner, this is a non-returner, this is an Arhat, this is a solitary Buddha, this is a Bodhisattva, this is a Tathāgata Arhat Perfectly Complete Buddha, he does not discriminate in this way.

Abiding in generosity and so forth, they gather beings completely with the perfection of wisdom. Subhuti, how does a bodhisattva mahasattva abide in the perfection of generosity, the perfection of discipline, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom, and connect beings with the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment? Subhuti, in this case, a bodhisattva mahasattva prepares various necessities for beings, and with those necessities, he accomplishes beings, causing them to cultivate the factors of enlightenment. By cultivating the factors of enlightenment, one will be completely liberated from samsara. Subhuti, in this way, a bodhisattva mahasattva abides in the six perfections and connects beings with the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. Furthermore, Subhuti, a bodhisattva mahasattva, acting in the perfection of generosity, sees beings who are without protectors, suffering, impoverished, and lacking food and clothing, and thus brings them to maturity: 'Noble sons, come here, take from me food, drink, clothing, vehicles, bedding, flowers, incense, perfume, garlands, ointments, human necessities, and any kind of supplies, even the seven precious things, and benefit beings!' Thus he exhorts and subsequently gives. He abides in the perfection of discipline, benefiting those beings with such benefits, helping them with such benefits, causing them to correctly take up and abide in the ten paths of virtuous actions. Those beings abide in the discipline of vows that is unbroken, undamaged, unmixed, without fault, undeteriorated, independent, praised by the wise, and extremely complete, becoming the cause of samadhi. They abide in the six perfections, abide in all emptiness, and in the factors of enlightenment. They abide in the noble truths, meditation, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, and liberation.
