One should not meditate saying that there is a real entity of samadhi without discernment, the noble truth of suffering, the noble truth of origin, the noble truth of cessation, the noble truth of the path, knowing suffering, knowing origin, knowing cessation, knowing the path, knowing exhaustion, knowing non-arising, knowing the Dharma, knowing following, knowing convention, knowing familiarity, knowing as it is said, one should not meditate saying that there is a real entity. All perfections, all emptiness, one should not meditate saying that there is a real entity. Six superknowledges, all samadhis, all dharani gates, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four individual correct knowledges, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, great love, great compassion, one should not meditate saying that there is a real entity. The fruit of stream-enterer, the fruit of once-returner, the fruit of non-returner, Arhatship itself, self-awakening, up to omniscience itself, one should not meditate saying that there is a real entity of abandoning all afflictions that connect with habitual tendencies. Why is that? Subhuti, for one who has a concept of real entities, there is no meditation on the Perfection of Wisdom. For one who has a concept of real entities, there is no meditation on the Perfection of Dhyana, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Morality, the Perfection of Giving. For one who has a concept of real entities, there is not even the abandonment of all afflictions that connect with habitual tendencies. Why is that? Like this, that one clings to the two extremes, saying, 'This is me' to a real entity, and by clinging to the two extremes, giving, morality, patience, diligence, dhyana, and wisdom, up to the abandonment of all afflictions that connect with habitual tendencies, because one clings to the two extremes, saying, 'This is me.' If one clings to the two extremes, there is no liberation for that one. Why is that? Subhuti, for one who has a concept of real entities, even giving

There is not. There is also no morality. There is also no patience. There is also no diligence. There is also no meditation. There is also no wisdom. Even until all the afflictions that connect the habitual tendencies are abandoned, if there is no complete knowledge, how can that become liberation? Asked: Blessed One, what is meant by "existing entity"? What is meant by "non-existing entity"? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, two are existing entities. Non-two are non-existing entities. Asked: Blessed One, what is meant by "two"? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, the perception of form is two. The perception of feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness is two. The perception of sense bases, elements, and dependent origination is two. The perception of acceptance and rejection is two. The first dhyana, the second dhyana, the third dhyana, the fourth dhyana, loving-kindness, compassion, joy, equanimity, the attainment of the sphere of infinite space, the attainment of the sphere of infinite consciousness, the attainment of the sphere of nothingness, the perception of the attainment of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception is two. The recollection of the Buddha, the recollection of the Dharma, the recollection of the Sangha, the recollection of morality, the recollection of generosity, the recollection of the gods, the recollection of peace, the recollection of mindfulness of breathing in and out, the recollection of death, the perception of the aspects of the body is two. The perception of impermanence, the perception of suffering, the perception of selflessness, the perception of impurity, the perception of non-entity, the perception of self, the perception of sentient beings, the perception of life, the perception of birth, the perception of nourishment, the perception of man, the perception of person, the perception of the powerful, the perception of the lord of power, the perception of the maker, the perception of the feeler, the perception of the knower, the perception of the seer is two.
