What are these nine? Subhuti, here, a bodhisattva mahasattva, secluded from desires, secluded from unwholesome evil dharmas, with initial application and sustained application, having joy and pleasure born of seclusion, dwells having attained the first dhyana. Then, with the subsiding of initial application and sustained application, with inner serenity, with unification of mind, without initial application, without sustained application, having joy and pleasure born of concentration, dwells having attained the second dhyana.
