Do you truly and completely see it? He replied: Blessed One, it is not so. The Blessed One said: Sharadvatiputra, it is just so. When a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not think, 'This is the Dharma that is being predicted, this is the Dharma that will be predicted, this is the Dharma that has been predicted, this is the Dharma by which one will manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete Enlightenment.' A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices in this way is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. He has no doubt about it, and he does not think, 'I will not manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete Enlightenment,' but rather, 'I will undoubtedly manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete Enlightenment.' Sharadvatiputra, whoever practices in this way is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Sharadvatiputra, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices in this way will not be fearless, unafraid, or terrified, and he will not think, 'I will not manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete Enlightenment,' but rather, 'I will undoubtedly manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete Enlightenment.' Then, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva perfect the six perfections and become very close to omniscience? After he had said this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Giving, he sees beings who are hungry, beings who are thirsty, beings who are poorly clothed, and beings who lack food, clothing, and bedding. He should thoroughly examine this and think: 'By all means, in that Buddha-field where I will manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete Enlightenment, these faults of beings'

in all things, everything does not arise and does not exist, and the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings, and the thirty-three (Trayastriṃśat), the Yama, the Tuṣita, the Nirmāṇarati, and the gods of the Parinirmitavaśavartin, just as the enjoyment and happiness of those gods are, similarly, the enjoyment and happiness of that Buddha-field, thus and thus one should practice the perfection of generosity, one should examine it thus. Subhūti, a bodhisattva-mahāsattva who practices in this way also perfects the perfection of generosity, and is also close to unexcelled perfect awakening. Subhūti, furthermore, when a bodhisattva-mahāsattva practices the perfection of discipline, does he see beings killing? Does he see beings taking what is not given, engaging in sexual misconduct, speaking falsely, speaking divisively, speaking harshly, speaking nonsensically, those with greed, those with malice, those with wrong views? Does he see beings with short lives, many illnesses, ugliness, little power, little enjoyment, low birth, beings with incomplete limbs? One should examine it thus: somehow or other, in that Buddha-field where I will awaken to unexcelled perfect awakening, these faults of beings will not arise and will not exist in all things, and all beings will abide in the path of the ten virtuous actions. Thus and thus one should practice the perfection of discipline, one should examine it thus. Subhūti, a bodhisattva-mahāsattva who practices in this way also perfects the perfection of discipline, and is also close to unexcelled perfect awakening. Subhūti, furthermore, when a bodhisattva-mahāsattva practices the perfection of patience, if he sees beings harming each other, striking, hitting, and killing with stones, sticks, and weapons, he should examine it thus: somehow or other, I will

In that Buddha-field where one attains complete enlightenment, manifestly awakens as a Buddha, all these faults of sentient beings will not occur, and it is impossible for them to arise. And all sentient beings will also transform into a mind of loving-kindness, seeing all sentient beings as a mother, as a father, as brothers, as sisters, transforming into a mind of love, a mind of benefit. Thus, thus, one should practice the perfection of patience. One should contemplate in this way. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices in this way also perfects the perfection of patience and is also close to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Subhuti, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the perfection of diligence, if they see sentient beings with weak diligence, possessing a mind of laziness, and turning their backs on these three vehicles, namely the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, and the Buddha Vehicle, then they should contemplate in this way: In any case, may I, in the Buddha-field where I manifestly awaken as a Buddha in unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment, may all these faults of sentient beings not occur, and may it be impossible for them to arise. May all sentient beings also be steadfast in diligence, exert effort diligently, and attain ultimate Nirvana through the three vehicles. One should contemplate in this way. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices in this way also perfects the perfection of diligence and is also close to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Subhuti, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva- Mahasattva practices the perfection of meditative concentration, if they see sentient beings obscured by the torrent of desire, anger, dullness, sleep, agitation, regret, doubt, and the five obscurations, or not possessing the first dhyana, or not possessing the second dhyana, the third dhyana, or the fourth dhyana, or not possessing loving-kindness.
