The four kinds of perfect knowledge, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, great love, great compassion, great joy, and great equanimity. Thus, countless other Buddha-dharmas were also extensively taught. Kausika, furthermore, whichever son or daughter of good family makes this Perfection of Wisdom into a book, and gives it to others for the sake of reading, writing, and reciting, know that such a one will accumulate a vast amount of merit. Why is that? Kausika, because from this Perfection of Wisdom all dharmas are extensively taught; because they exist, there exist the great and noble royal lineages, the great and noble Brahmin lineages, and the great and noble householder lineages. There exist the gods of the Four Great Kings, the Thirty-three, the Yama gods, the Tushita gods, the gods who delight in creating, and the gods who have power over others' creations; the Brahma hosts, the Brahma attendants, the Great Brahma, the Pure Radiance, and the gods up to Akanishta; the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of nothingness, and the gods up to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. There exist all the perfections, all emptinesses, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, the noble truths, the meditations, the immeasurables, and the formless absorptions. There exist the eight liberations and the nine successive abidings in absorption. There exist the three doors of liberation and the superknowledges. There exist the samadhis and the gateways of dharani. There exist the powers of the Tathagatas, the fearlessnesses, the perfect knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the unshared qualities of a Buddha. Up to the all-knowingness. There exist the stream-enterers, the once-returners, the non-returners, the arhats, and the solitary Buddhas. Kauśika, how do you think of the beings of the four continents of the world? If some son or daughter of good family thoroughly puts them on the path of the ten virtuous actions, Kauśika, what do you think? Does the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that? They replied: Blessed One, it increases greatly. Sugata, it increases greatly. The Blessed One said: Kauśika, even more than that, whatever son or daughter of good family gives this book of the Perfection of Wisdom to others for the sake of reading, writing, and reciting, the merit will increase even more. Why is that? Kauśika, it is like this: all the Dharma of the Hearers, the Solitary Buddhas, and the Bodhisattvas, and all the Dharma of the Buddhas, are born from this Perfection of Wisdom. Kauśika, let alone putting the beings of the four great continents of the world on the path of the ten virtuous actions, and even putting them on the path to self-awakening. Kauśika, how many beings are there in the thousand worlds of dust? If some son or daughter of good family thoroughly puts them on the path of the ten virtuous actions, and thoroughly puts them on the path to self-awakening, Kauśika, what do you think? Does the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that? They replied: Blessed One, it increases greatly. Sugata, it increases greatly. The Blessed One said: Kauśika, even more than that, whatever son or daughter of good family gives this book of the Perfection of Wisdom to others for the sake of reading, writing, and reciting, the merit will increase even more. Kauśika, let alone the thousand worlds of dust. Kauśika, how many beings are there in the two thousand worlds, the middle world? If some son or daughter of good family thoroughly puts them on the path of the ten virtuous actions, and even thoroughly puts them on the path to self-awakening, Kauśika, what do you think? Does the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that?
