That which has not arisen is not the mindfulnesses. Kauśika, the right abandonments, the miraculous feet, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, and the noble eightfold path have not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not the noble eightfold path. Kauśika, the noble truths, the meditations, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, and the doors to liberation—emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness—as well as the superknowledges, the samādhis, the dhāraṇī doors, the powers of the Tathāgata, the fearlessnesses, the individual perfect knowledges, the great love, the great compassion, and the unmixed qualities of the Buddha have not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not the unmixed qualities of the Buddha. Kauśika, the fruit of stream-entry has not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not the fruit of stream-entry. Kauśika, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning, arhatship itself, and solitary enlightenment have not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not solitary enlightenment. Kauśika, omniscience itself has not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not omniscience itself. Kauśika, a stream-enterer has not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not a stream-enterer. Kauśika, a once-returner, a non-returner, and arhatship have not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not an arhat. Kauśika, a solitary Buddha has not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not a solitary Buddha. Kauśika, a bodhisattva has not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not a bodhisattva. Kauśika, a Tathāgata has not arisen. Whatever has not arisen is not a Tathāgata. Then the lord of the gods, Indra, thought to himself: Alas! The venerable Subhūti, in this way, does not contradict the designation, and the nature of reality that he teaches is profound wisdom! Then the Blessed One said to the lord of the gods, Indra: It is just so.

Kauśika, it is just so. This venerable Subhūti is endowed with profound wisdom, and therefore he does not contradict the establishment of names, and he also teaches the nature of reality. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, said: "Bhagavan, how does this venerable Subhūti not contradict the establishment of names, and also teach the nature of reality?" After he had said this, the Bhagavan said to the lord of the gods, Indra, as follows: "Kauśika, form is merely an establishment of names. Whatever is merely an establishment of names, that is the nature of reality, and that is what the venerable Subhūti has shown to be non-contradictory. Kauśika, feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are merely an establishment of names. Whatever is merely an establishment of names, that is the nature of reality, and that is what the venerable Subhūti has shown to be non-contradictory. Kauśika, why is that? Whatever is the nature of reality of phenomena, that is non-contradictory, completely non-contradictory. Whatever is non-contradictory, completely non-contradictory, that is what the venerable Subhūti has shown, and there is no contradiction. Kauśika, the sense bases, the elements, and dependent origination are merely an establishment of names. Whatever is merely an establishment of names, that is the nature of reality, and that is what the venerable Subhūti has shown to be non-contradictory. Kauśika, why is that? Whatever is the nature of reality, that is non-contradictory, completely non-contradictory. Whatever is non-contradictory, completely non-contradictory, that is what the venerable Subhūti has shown, and there is no contradiction. Kauśika, the perfection of giving, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, the perfection of wisdom, and inner emptiness, up to the emptiness of the nature of non-things, and the mindfulnesses, and the correct abandonments, and the feet of magical power, and the faculties, and the powers, and the limbs of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path, and the noble truths, and the meditations, and the immeasurables, and the formless absorptions, and the eight liberations, and the nine successive abidings, and the doors of liberation, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, and direct perception
