Which hero should be advised and instructed in the perfection of wisdom? If even the bodhisattva himself is not fully and truly seen or observed, then which bodhisattva should be advised and instructed in the perfection of wisdom? Blessed One, the term 'bodhisattva' is merely a name. Blessed One, just as I cling to 'I,' but there is actually no 'I' that can be substantiated. Blessed One, similarly, although we say 'bodhisattva, bodhisattva,' there is actually no bodhisattva that can be substantiated. That being the case, among these dharmas that lack inherent existence, how can one see any form that can be substantiated? How can one see any feeling, perception, mental formation, or consciousness that can be substantiated? Blessed One, whatever cannot be substantiated is not form. Whatever cannot be substantiated is not feeling, perception, mental formation, or consciousness. Blessed One, that is how it is. If there is no bodhisattva, that is, a great hero who aspires to enlightenment, who can be separated from these unsubstantiated things, then how can one advise this unsubstantiated thing to practice this unsubstantiated perfection of wisdom? If, when taught in this way, the mind of the bodhisattva mahasattva does not become discouraged, does not become completely discouraged, does not regret, does not fear, does not become alarmed, does not become afraid, then that bodhisattva mahasattva is practicing the perfection of wisdom. Then, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said to the venerable Subhuti, "Venerable Subhuti, why is it that a great bodhisattva does not cling to the past extreme? Does not cling to the future extreme? Does not cling to the present extreme? Venerable Subhuti, because form is utterly boundless, therefore a bodhisattva should know that everything is utterly boundless. Because feeling, perception, mental formation, and consciousness are utterly boundless, therefore a bodhisattva should know that everything is utterly boundless. Venerable Subhuti, why is form called a bodhisattva?

Such an abode is also non-existent and invisible. Feeling, thought, formation, and. Consciousness, called a Bodhisattva, is also non-existent and invisible. Why is that, Venerable Subhuti? It is said that if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not truly see or perceive everything in all ways, how can a Bodhisattva advise and teach the Perfection of Wisdom? Why is that, Venerable Subhuti? It is said that if the Bodhisattva himself does not fully and truly see or perceive, how can a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva advise and teach the Perfection of Wisdom? Twenty Thousand Verses (ཁ) 22A. Why is that, Venerable Subhuti? It is said that, Bhagavan, this which is called a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is merely a name. Why is that, Venerable Subhuti? It is said that just as 'I, I' is called, the self is not truly established. Bhagavan, similarly, 'Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva' is called, but a Bodhisattva is not truly established. Thus, in the nature of non-substantiality of all dharmas, what is there to see as truly existent in form? What is there to see as truly existent in feeling, thought, formation, and consciousness? That which is not truly existent is not form. That which is not truly existent is not feeling, thought, formation, and consciousness. Why is that, Venerable Subhuti? It is said, how can one advise and teach the Perfection of Wisdom, which is non-existent, to that which is non-existent? Why is that, Venerable Subhuti? It is said that apart from the non-existent, there is also nothing visible that is called a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Why is that, Venerable Subhuti? It is said that if it is taught in that way, the Bodhisattva's mind will not be discouraged, will not be completely discouraged, will not regret, and the mind will not be afraid, will not be frightened, will not

If so, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom. After saying this, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Venerable Saradvatiputra: "Venerable Saradvatiputra, because there are no sentient beings, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the past limit. Because sentient beings are empty, sentient beings are solitary, and sentient beings are without inherent nature, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the past limit. Venerable Saradvatiputra, because there are no sentient beings, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the future limit. Because sentient beings are empty, sentient beings are solitary, and sentient beings are without inherent nature, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the future limit. Venerable Saradvatiputra, because there are no sentient beings, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the present. Because sentient beings are empty, sentient beings are solitary, and sentient beings are without inherent nature, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the present. Venerable Saradvatiputra, why is that? Because for that which has no sentient beings, sentient beings are empty, sentient beings are solitary, and sentient beings are without inherent nature, one does not focus on the past limit, one does not focus on the future limit, one does not focus on the present. The absence of sentient beings is also different, the emptiness of sentient beings is also different, the solitude of sentient beings is also different, the absence of inherent nature of sentient beings is also different, the Bodhisattva is also different, the past limit is also different, the future limit is also different, and the present is also different, there is no such thing as saying that. Venerable Saradvatiputra, in this way, what is the absence of sentient beings, what is the emptiness of sentient beings, what is the solitude of sentient beings, what is the absence of inherent nature of sentient beings, what is the Bodhisattva, what is the past limit, what is the future limit, and what is the present, all of these are non-dual, they are indivisible. Venerable Saradvatiputra, because form is absent, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the past limit. Because feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are absent, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the past limit. Because form is emptiness itself.
