Even the most valiant Caṇḍālas would find it difficult to overcome. Subhūti, for example, the kings of the realms under a Cakravartin King come to pay homage, coming to his presence to serve. Subhūti, similarly, the five perfections, when completely grasped by the Perfection of Wisdom, go to where omniscience is. Subhūti, for example, all the rivers, however many there may be, flow to where the great river Ganges is. They join the Ganges and flow into the great ocean. Subhūti, similarly, the five perfections, when completely grasped by the Perfection of Wisdom, go to where omniscience is. Subhūti, for example, a man's right hand does everything that needs to be done. Subhūti, the Perfection of Wisdom should be viewed in the same way, and the five perfections should be viewed as the left hand. Subhūti, for example, all the water of small rivers and the water of large rivers, however much there is, when they go to the great ocean, it is like this: they become one taste, the taste of salt. Subhūti, similarly, the five perfections, when completely grasped by the Perfection of Wisdom, when they go to omniscience, it is like this: they become one taste, the taste of omniscience. Subhūti, for example, In front of the four-membered host of the Cakravartin King's army, the precious wheel goes and stays. Wherever the Cakravartin King stays for the sake of food, the entire host of the Cakravartin King's army is completely satisfied, and those precious wheels do not move from their place. Subhūti, similarly, these five perfections are also completely led by the Perfection of Wisdom, going to where omniscience is, and staying there. Once they stay there, even the earth does not move from that place. Subhūti, for example, the Cakravartin

That precious wheel of the universal monarch, and that precious minister, and that precious householder, and that precious woman, and that precious jewel, and that precious elephant, and that precious horse, these go before the army with its four divisions. Subhuti, likewise, the Perfection of Wisdom also goes before these five perfections. Having gone before, it will also abide where the all-knowingness is. The Perfection of Wisdom does not think: "The Perfection of Giving follows after me." The Perfection of Wisdom does not think: "The Perfection of Ethics follows after me." The Perfection of Wisdom does not think: "The Perfection of Patience follows after me." The Perfection of Wisdom does not think: "The Perfection of Diligence follows after me." The Perfection of Wisdom does not think: "The Perfection of Meditation follows after me." The Perfection of Giving also does not think: "I follow after the Perfection of Wisdom." The Perfection of Diligence also does not think: "I follow after the Perfection of Wisdom." The Perfection of Meditation also does not think: "I follow after the Perfection of Wisdom." Why is that? Because their own nature is such, they cannot do anything, they are empty of inherent existence and are alive, like reeds. Then, the venerable Subhuti said this to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, if

Since all dharmas are empty by nature, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, O Blessed One, practice the perfection of generosity, practice the perfection of morality, practice the perfection of patience, practice the perfection of diligence, practice the perfection of meditation, practice the perfection of wisdom, and manifestly and perfectly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the six perfections, he thinks thus: Alas! These beings abiding in the world have minds that are inverted and confused. Because they are unskilled in means, they are unable to be completely liberated from samsara. I shall practice the perfection of generosity for the sake of those sentient beings. I shall practice the perfection of morality. I shall practice the perfection of patience. I shall practice the perfection of diligence. I shall practice the perfection of meditation. I shall practice the perfection of wisdom. Having thought thus, for the sake of those sentient beings, he completely gives away all inner and outer objects. When he gives them away, he thinks thus: I have not left anything un-given. Why is that? It is because these objects are by nature perishable. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who thus truly understands, perfects the perfection of generosity. For the sake of those sentient beings, he does not discriminate against bad morality. Why is that? He thinks thus: I have truly entered into unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and I would commit killing, take what is not given, engage in sexual misconduct, speak falsehood, become a divisive speaker, speak harsh words, become a frivolous speaker, become greedy, act with harmful intent, become a holder of wrong views, crave objects, crave gods.
