All these are solely for entering into unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. Even if they were to abide in the state of an Arhat, and someone were to say, 'You will realize unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, and become fully enlightened!' If a Bodhisattva Mahasattva were to think, 'This is a wicked demon, showing a distorted path,' when that Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, they will not turn back from unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, nor will they fall into the level of a Hearer or a Solitary Realizer. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, practicing the Perfection of Giving, practicing the Perfection of Ethics, practicing the Perfection of Patience, practicing the Perfection of Diligence, practicing the Perfection of Meditation, practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, and practicing in this way up to the state of Omniscience, if they think, 'There is no place or opportunity where they will not realize unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment; that is impossible,' then, Subhuti, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who possesses these aspects, these qualities, and these characteristics should be known as irreversible. Furthermore, Subhuti, when an irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, if they think, 'If I learn and practice as the Tathagata has taught, and do not stray from that practice, and practice with these mental engagements that are in accordance with the perfections, then they will not degenerate from the Perfection of Giving, they will not degenerate from the Perfection of Ethics, they will not degenerate from the Perfection of Patience, they will not degenerate from the Perfection of Diligence, they will not degenerate from the Perfection of Meditation, they will not degenerate from the Perfection of Wisdom, they will not degenerate from the emptiness of the internal, they will not degenerate from the emptiness of the external, they will not degenerate from the emptiness of both the internal and the external.'

Who would think that the works of the Maras could not be completely overcome by the unsurpassed, perfectly complete Awakening? Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who possesses those aspects, those qualities, and those characteristics should be known as irreversible. When this was said, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: "Blessed One, for what reason is a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who is irreversible called irreversible?" The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, that is because he turns back from the perception of form. He turns back from the perception of feeling. He turns back from the perception of perception. He turns back from the perception of formations. He turns back from the perception of consciousness. He turns back from the perception of elements. He turns back from the perception of sources.
