For the fruit of stream-enterer, there is no regression and no fundamental connection, this is complete purity. For the fruit of once-returner, there is no regression and no fundamental connection, this is complete purity. For the fruit of non-returner, there is no regression and no fundamental connection, this is complete purity. For the Arhat himself, there is no regression and no fundamental connection, this is complete purity. For self-awakening, there is no regression and no fundamental connection, this is complete purity. For the auspicious aspect of the path, there is no regression and no fundamental connection, this is complete purity. For the omniscient itself, there is no regression and no fundamental connection, this is complete purity. The questioner said: Blessed One, complete purity is the absence of all afflictions. The Blessed One replied: Because of the extremely complete purity. The son of Sharadvati asked: Blessed One, for what reason is there no affliction? Is the absence of all afflictions complete purity? The Blessed One replied: Because form is naturally luminous, complete purity is without all afflictions. Because feeling is naturally luminous, complete purity is without all afflictions. Because perception is naturally luminous, complete purity is without all afflictions. Because formation is naturally luminous, complete purity is without all afflictions. Because consciousness is naturally luminous, complete purity is without all afflictions. Because the eye is naturally luminous, complete purity is without all afflictions. Because the ear is naturally luminous, complete purity is without all afflictions. Because the nose is naturally luminous, complete purity is without all afflictions.
