It is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For those who are ultimately abiding in equipoise, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the doors of liberation, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the superknowledges, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the samādhis, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the doors of dhāraṇī, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the powers of the Tathāgata, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the fearlessnesses, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the individual perfect knowledges, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For great loving-kindness, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For great compassion, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the unshared qualities of the Buddhas, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the knowledge of all things, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the knowledge of the aspects of the path, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. For the knowledge of all aspects, it is also not abiding, and it is also not non-abiding. Thus, one should abide in the Perfection of Wisdom. The son of Śāradvatī, the bodhisattva mahāsattva, should train in the Perfection of Wisdom in such a fearless manner, and should abide. Then, in that assembly, some sons of the gods thought to themselves: "If the words of the yakṣas, the voices of the yakṣas, the sounds of the yakṣas, and the expressions of the yakṣas are spoken, that is understandable. But what the noble Subhūti speaks of, recites, teaches, distinguishes, clarifies, and definitively shows regarding the Perfection of Wisdom, that is not understandable." Then, the venerable Subhūti, knowing with his mind the thoughts of those sons of the gods, said to those sons of the gods: "Sons of the gods, is what is spoken not understandable?" The sons of the gods said: "Noble Subhūti, it is not understandable." Subhūti said: "Sons of

O sons, like this, even a single word is not spoken. Whatever is not spoken, that is not to be heard. Whatever is not to be heard, that is not to be known. Why is that? Because the Perfection of Wisdom is not a letter. In that, there is no one who teaches, hears, or knows. Why is that? O sons of the gods, the enlightenment of the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas is not a letter. O sons of the gods, it is like this, for example, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha emanates an emanation of a Buddha. That emanation also emanates four assemblies of monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen. Then that emanation teaches the Dharma to those four assemblies of emanations. O sons of the gods, what do you think of that? In that assembly, is there anyone who has been taught? Is there anyone who has heard? Is there anyone who has known? They said: Venerable Subhuti, there is not. Subhuti said: O sons of the gods, likewise, all dharmas are like illusions. In that, there is no one who teaches. There is no one who hears. There is no one who knows. O sons of the gods, it is like this, for example, in a dream of a man who has fallen asleep, he sees the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha teaching the Dharma. O sons of the gods, what do you think of that? In that, is there anyone who has been taught? Heard? Known? They said: Venerable Subhuti, there is not. Subhuti said: O sons of the gods, likewise, all dharmas are like dreams. In that, there is no one who teaches. There is no one who hears. There is no one who knows. O sons of the gods, it is like this, for example, two men are sitting in a mountain valley, praising the virtues of the Buddha, and also praising the virtues of the Dharma and the Sangha, and from those two, an echo arises. O sons of the gods, what do you think? Does that single echo make the sound of the second echo auspicious? They said: Venerable Subhuti, there is not. Subhuti said: O sons of the gods, likewise, all dharmas are like echoes.

Therein, no one teaches, no one hears, no one knows. Sons of the gods, for example, a magician, or a skilled apprentice of a magician, might conjure up a Tathagata, an Arhat, a perfectly enlightened Buddha at a crossroads on a major road, and also conjure up a retinue of four assemblies: monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen. If he were to teach the Dharma to the conjured retinue of four assemblies, sons of the gods, what do you think? Is there anyone who teaches, hears, or knows therein? They said: Venerable Subhuti, no. Subhuti said: Sons of the gods, likewise, all dharmas are like illusions. Therein, no one teaches, no one hears, no one knows. Then, those sons of the gods thought to themselves: Alas, this Subhuti is so clear! Alas, this noble Subhuti, while clearly explaining the Perfection of Wisdom, also teaches what is deeper than the deep, and enters into what is finer than the fine. Then, the venerable Subhuti, knowing the mental discriminations of those sons of the gods with his mind, said to those sons of the gods: Sons of the gods, form is not deep, not fine; feeling is not deep, not fine; perception is not deep, not fine; formation is not deep, not fine; consciousness is not deep, not fine. Why is that? Because the intrinsic nature of form is not deep, not fine; the intrinsic nature of feeling is not deep, not fine; the intrinsic nature of perception is not deep, not fine; the intrinsic nature of formation is not deep, not fine; the intrinsic nature of consciousness is not deep, not fine. The eye is not deep, not fine; the ear is not deep, not fine; the nose is not deep, not fine; the tongue is not deep, not fine; the body is not deep, not fine; the mind is not deep, not fine. Why is that? Because the intrinsic nature of the eye is not deep, not fine; the intrinsic nature of the ear is not deep
