He said, 'In front of everyone, do as you see fit.' Then, the seller said, 'This is worth forty karshapanas.' The buyer said, 'According to my faith and trust, this is only worth twenty karshapanas.' The seller said, 'Who is your faith and trust? Is it the venerable Nanda?' He knowingly tormented the two of us, saying to me, 'This is worth forty karshapanas.' He said, 'He also knowingly, in order to deceive both of us, in short, he acts in a bad way, so even if there is a need in the future, do not ask him.' That's how it happened, and the monks reported it to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said, 'Monks, the rebuke of those two householders is justified. Therefore, monks, do not evaluate any object. Do not sit in a place where householders are arguing. Any monk who evaluates an object or sits in a place where householders are arguing will incur a transgression.' The Bhagavan said, 'A monk should not evaluate any object.' Then, the monks, wanting to buy robes and clothes, went to the market. There, they raised the price together with the householders, such as a karshapana, or one pana, or four panas, or a quarter, or half of a quarter, or half of half of a quarter. The man angrily said, 'Venerable ones, we are hucksters, and you are even bigger hucksters!' That's how it happened, and the monks reported it to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said, 'Monks, it is right for them to say that. Therefore, monks, do not buy for yourselves.' The Bhagavan said, 'A monk should not buy for himself.' The monks did not know how to buy. The Bhagavan said, 'Look for the upasaka who lives in the monastery.' If there is no one in the monastery, or if the upasaka has no faith and definitely wants to buy, then say the fixed words two or three times, and do not raise the price in the manner of karshapanas, etc. A monk should buy

Whether one wishes to redeem or not, if the price is raised two or three times using methods such as karshapana, it constitutes raising the price. There is no fault in raising the price for the sake of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. This is the content of the eighth verse of the Sutra of the Four Foundations. In short, one should not make a living by working with roots, the four methods should not be distributed, and one should protect and increase. Making a lot of noise. The Buddha Bhagavan was residing in Rajagriha, in the bamboo grove where the Kalanda birds dwelled. At that time, King Bimbisara offered a garden with a thousand edible trees to the community of monks. The monks ate the fruits and discarded them carelessly, and as a result, the garden became like an arrow forest. Later, the king went along that road and saw those sights, and asked the ministers, "Whose is this garden that has become like an arrow forest?" The ministers replied, "This is the garden with a thousand edible trees that you offered to the noble ones. They ate the fruits and discarded them carelessly, and now it has become like an arrow forest." The king said, "Do those noble ones not manage and work?" The ministers replied, "Those noble ones are engaged in meditation and recitation, so they do not manage and work." The king remained silent. After the incident occurred, the monks reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed, "Therefore, do not carelessly discard root foods, but do work." The monks did not know who should do the work. The Blessed One instructed, "Let the residents do it." But because they were old and frail, they could not do the work. The Blessed One instructed, "Let the entire Sangha do the work." But some of them were thin and old, some were unable to work due to illness, and the group of six were not capable, so they did not do the work. The Blessed One instructed, "By dividing the rotation, divide the rotation and share the responsibility to do the work." The monks accepted the teachings and recited.

and, reciting, properly attending to, entering those communities. The Blessed One taught: Do not only focus on this, sometimes eat toothpicks, sometimes wash your face, sometimes wash your feet. Those monks acted in this way, and the fruits grew and ripened. When some monks suddenly arrived, they saw those fruits that had grown and ripened, and they said to the venerable ones: Can we also eat the ripe mango fruits? Do we also have a share? The monks said: If we had divided them before, where would there be any left to eat now? They were thus ridiculed. The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One taught: Also give some to those who have suddenly arrived. The monks gave the remainder of what had been divided. The Blessed One taught: Monks, there are four things that cannot be divided. What are the four? Namely: all that belongs to the entire Sangha of the four directions, all that belongs to all stupas, medicine for all the sick, and all food that is continuously valuable. Therefore, monks, whether you find roots, fruits, or flowers, etc., use them as people usually do. Because these are openly owned, be careful to guard them, and offer the flowers and fruits to the Sangha. The Blessed One said, because they are openly owned, each of you should carefully guard them and offer the flowers and fruits to the Sangha. The monks carefully guarded those flowers and fruits until they ripened. When they withered and fell, the flowers and fruits were taken by thieves. The Blessed One said: Assign someone to guard them. The monks left only a few, and that became the target of faults. The Blessed One taught: When there are many people, first use half of those to make food. The Blessed One said: Offer the ripe mango fruits to the Sangha. When the fruits ripened, they were eaten by worms.
