Monks, this monk is not at fault because he is afflicted by suffering. I again instruct you thus: Monks, if you are afflicted by hemorrhoids, do not cut them off yourself with your nails or the like, nor have others cut them off. For this, two methods of treatment should be applied: medicine and mantras. Monks, if one afflicted by hemorrhoids cuts them off with nails or the like, or has them cut off, it becomes an offense involving transgression. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying near the Shakya town in a place called Merchant Spūbūcan. At that time, another householder, out of his own accord, his wife's, and his own joy, built a monastery and offered it to the venerable Sound-holder alone. Then, the venerable Sound-holder stayed in that monastery for some time, and then, taking his bowl and robes, went wandering. The householder heard that the noble Sound-holder had stayed in that monastery for some time, and then, taking his bowl and robes, had gone wandering. Having heard this, the householder offered the monastery to the Sangha. Then, the venerable Sound-holder, having wandered as long as he pleased, taking his bowl and robes, went wandering to where the Shakya town called Merchant Spūbūcan was, and gradually wandering, he arrived at the place called Merchant Spūbūcan. The venerable Sound-holder heard that the householder had offered the monastery to the Sangha. Having heard this, he went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the venerable Sound-holder said this to the Blessed One: Venerable, another householder, out of his own accord, his wife's, and his own joy, built a monastery and gave it to me alone, and I stayed in that monastery for some time, and then, taking my bowl and robes, I went wandering, and that householder

I heard that it had been done. Having heard this, that householder again asked, "If this monastery has been offered to the Sangha, then what should I do now?" Then, (the Buddha) said, "Holder of Sound, come here!" Holder of Sound went to the place where that householder was, went before him, and said to that householder, 'Householder, is there any fault in my body, speech, and mind?' Venerable Holder of Sound, having heard this from the Blessed One, did as he was told. He went to the place where that householder was, went before him, and said to that householder, 'Householder, is there any fault in my body, speech, and mind?' The householder replied, 'Noble Holder of Sound, there is not even the slightest fault in your body, speech, and mind.' Then, Venerable Holder of Sound carefully inquired of that householder, and then went to the place where the Blessed One was, went before the Blessed One, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One, 'Venerable One, I asked that householder, 'Householder, is there any fault in my body, speech, and mind?' He replied, 'Noble Holder of Sound, there is not even the slightest fault in your body, speech, and mind.'" At that time, Venerable Ananda was holding a fan beside the Blessed One, fanning the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One said to Venerable Ananda, 'Ananda, go and gather all the monks who dwell and reside in the place called "Merchant Little Bubble" near the Shakya settlement into the assembly hall.' Venerable Ananda replied, 'As you command.' Venerable Ananda, having heard this from the Blessed One, gathered all the monks who dwelt and resided in the place called "Merchant Little Bubble" near the Shakya settlement into the assembly hall, and then went to the place where the Blessed One was, went before the Blessed One, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One, 'Venerable One, if the Blessed One thinks the time is right, then in the place called "Merchant Little Bubble" near the Shakya settlement, all the monks...'

It was reported, "All those who dwell and reside there have gathered in the assembly hall." Then, the Blessed One went to where the assembly hall was, and upon arriving, sat down on the seat prepared before the community of monks. Having sat down, the Blessed One addressed the monks, saying: "Monks, if someone gives alms to one person and then gives to another, that is giving unlawfully, receiving unlawfully, and using unlawfully. Or, if it is given to more than two, or to the Sangha, it is also giving unlawfully, receiving unlawfully, and using unlawfully. Monks, if someone gives alms to two people, giving to one, or the other, or both, or many, or to the Sangha, that is giving unlawfully, receiving unlawfully, and using unlawfully. Monks, if someone gives alms to many people, giving to one, or two, or many others, or to the Sangha, that is giving unlawfully, receiving unlawfully, and using unlawfully. Having given to the Sangha, if it is given to one person, or two, or many, or to another Sangha, that is giving unlawfully, receiving unlawfully, and using unlawfully. The Sangha of the Tathagata's disciples is divided, and considering those residing within and outside factions, if alms given to one faction are given to another, that is giving unlawfully, receiving unlawfully, and using unlawfully.
