"Gala Bhikshu!" (they) asked, "Didn't you take some wine?" The monks said, "We took it." The robbers said, "Monks! You stole our wine, you are thieves!" The monks felt remorse, and the Blessed One taught, "There is no fault, one should carefully examine whether there is an owner before taking it." It is the same with meat. After the robbers plundered the village, they fled to Ramada. They went to the temple, and those people, being afraid, went into the temple, gave their clothes to the monks, and fled to the monastery. Those householders surrounded the temple, and those people entered the temple. They saw that the monks had those clothes in their hands, and they said, "These clothes are ours!" The monks said, "The robbers gave them to us." The monks felt remorse. The Blessed One taught, "There is no fault, do not take the property that the robbers have stolen and given away. But if a robber with a mark gives it to you, then take it from him. Cut the clothes with a knife, change the color, and sell them. Even if you change the color, if they ask for it again, give it to them." A launderer put clothes in ash water, and he forgot and went to the village. He remembered the clothes again, so he went back. A monk was also looking for clothes in the rag heap, and he went there. He saw the clothes, and the monk picked up the clothes and left. The launderer saw it and said, "Monk! Don't steal clothes." The monk said, "I was looking for clothes in the rag heap and saw this. What do you need this for?" The launderer said, "Monk! I put these clothes in ash water and forgot. These are my clothes, don't steal! You took what was not given." The monk felt remorse, and the Blessed One taught, "There is no fault, one should carefully examine whether there is another owner before taking it." A launderer washed some clothes and was sitting under a tree, and a rag picker was picking rags, looking for rags.

The monk felt remorse. The Blessed One instructed, "It is very important to examine carefully." A householder left his garment and went to defecate. A rag-picker monk, searching for rags, went to that place, saw the garment, picked it up, and left. The householder also stood up and said, "Monk, this is my garment, do not steal it!" He said, "If it is yours, take it back." The monk felt remorse. The Blessed One instructed, "There is no fault, take it away clearly." Not far from Jeta Grove, a farmer left his garments and was plowing the field. A rag-picker monk, searching for rags, went to that place, saw the garment, picked it up, and left. The farmer saw him and said, "Monk, do not steal the garment!" He did not listen to him. The farmer ran and grabbed him, saying, "Venerable, is it appropriate? Do not take the garment without giving it! I saw it while searching for rags, what do you need this for?" The monk said, "Venerable, I left this garment to plow the field, this garment is mine." After saying that, he said, "If it is yours, take it back." The monk felt remorse. The Blessed One instructed, "There is no fault, examine it very carefully and then take it." A householder heard that the Shakya monks were taking garments that were subject to downfall, saying they were rags. So he nailed eight karshapanas into a valuable garment, buried it in a pile of rags, leaving only a small corner visible, and then left. A monk searching for rags went to that place. He saw the corner, pulled it out, and took it away. The householder saw him and said, "Monk, do not steal the cloth!" The monk said, "I found this while searching for garments in the rags, what does that have to do with you?
