When the acquired object has been divided, those people come and speak exactly as it is. The monks said: Venerable, do you question the Sangha in this way? Having informed the Sangha, having struck the ghaṇṭā (藏文:གཎྜཱི་,梵文天城体:घण्टा,梵文罗马拟音:ghaṇṭā,汉语字面意思:钟), having distributed the tally sticks, how did you only come here now? Those people said: Venerable ones, let alone the acquired object. If that is the case, tell us how we questioned the Sangha. If you have informed the Sangha, struck the ghaṇṭā (藏文:གཎྜཱི་,梵文天城体:घण्टा,梵文罗马拟音:ghaṇṭā,汉语字面意思:钟), distributed the tally sticks, then did you show our share to us? That's all. When it was said, "Even if there is no acquired object, it will be spent in vain," the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One spoke: Having informed the Sangha, having struck the ghaṇṭā (藏文:གཎྜཱི་,梵文天城体:घण्टा,梵文罗马拟音:ghaṇṭā,汉语字面意思:钟), having distributed the tally sticks, the share of whoever is not present should be shown and divided. The acquired object should not be given to whoever comes after it has been divided. If it is divided in that way, since it is well divided, there should be no regret about this. A monk should also not intentionally think and question the Sangha in that way. If a monk intentionally thinks and questions the Sangha, it will become a serious offense. The basis of the story is in Śrāvastī (舍卫城,公元前6世纪中叶-公元5世纪中叶古印度憍萨罗国首都). At the time when the householder Anāthapiṇḍada offered the Jeta Grove to the Sangha of monks from the four directions, and painted pictures inside and out with various colors of paint, at that time the assembly of people living in Śrāvastī (舍卫城,公元前6世纪中叶-公元5世纪中叶古印度憍萨罗国首都) heard how the householder Anāthapiṇḍada had painted the Jeta Grove inside and out with various colors of paint, making it extremely magnificent. At that time, hundreds of thousands of beings went near to see the Jeta Grove. Also at that time, a Brahmin lived in Śrāvastī (舍卫城,公元前6世纪中叶-公元5世纪中叶古印度憍萨罗国首都), and the king, ministers, and villagers greatly admired this Brahmin, thinking he was beautiful, so he received a very valuable lava (possibly referring to some kind of clothing or ornament) from the king's palace. He divided that thing and went to the Jeta Grove as if watching a show. As soon as he saw the Jeta Grove, great faith arose, and he offered that lava to the Sangha of monks from the four directions. The Blessed One knew.

He said, "If land is acquired, even the essence of ghee residue should be shared equally." The monks cut it into pieces and shared it equally. The Brahmin thought, "This gourd is worth a lot, I should offer karshapanas to the noble ones and then take it back." The next morning, he got up early and went to Jeta Grove. At the gate of Jeta Grove, many monks were gathered. He said, "Noble ones, I prostrate! Great Brahmin, are you well? Noble ones, what did you do with the gourd I offered?" The monks said, "Great Brahmin, rejoice! We have shared it equally." One said, "I used my share to patch my hat." Another said, "I used my share to patch my short boots." Another said, "I used my share to patch my upper garment." Another said, "I used my share to polish my bowl." He said, "Noble ones, this gourd is worth a lot, alas, why didn't you exchange it for karshapanas and then distribute the karshapanas?" The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said, "Monks, what that Brahmin said is true. Therefore, whatever the Sangha acquires, such as robes, should be exchanged for karshapanas, and then the karshapanas should be distributed." Summary: Of the five things that should not be done, making shoes is prohibited, as well as shoes made of bear skin, and the decorations on them. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Anathapindika's Park. The Six Groups said, "Gava, near Gava, we have begged for food from everyone in Shravasti without exception. The king's elephant tamers did not give us anything. Let's go back and beg for something." Some said, "Good, let's do that. But we should devise a plan. What should we do? Let's make shoes out of lion skin, wear them, sit by the roadside, and scare the elephants." Others said, "Let's do that for now."
