If the limits of practice are combined, I would say that this will become an obstacle to the Uposatha. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. The Venerable Ananda asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, you have taught both timely drinks and untimely drinks. Blessed One, what is a timely drink? What is an untimely drink? Ananda, what is unfiltered is timely, and what is filtered and mixed with water is untimely. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. The group of six monks are greedy for evil, stingy and unreasonably use the monastery, some use it all the time, some use it in turns, some use it temporarily, and some use it by relying on power. How is it used all the time? This is my winter monastery, this is spring, this is summer, so it is used all the time. How is it used in turns? This is my monastery for tomorrow, this is for the day after tomorrow, this is for the day after the day after tomorrow, so it is used in turns. How is it used temporarily? Here is where I stay in the morning, here is where I stay in the afternoon, so it is used temporarily. How is it used by relying on power? This is my teacher's monastery, this is the Khenpo's, the one who lives together, the attendant, the one who talks, and the one who says to visit, so it is used by relying on power. The monks who live in various places, because of the cold and poverty, at that time the monks prayed to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One taught: Therefore, the monks' monastery should not be used all the time, should not be used in turns, should not be used temporarily, and should not be used by relying on power. If it is used, it will be a serious offense. Summary: Fences and wooden fences, roads and pits, astrology and victory, robes torn and wiped, toilets and Brahmins. The Blessed One Buddha lived in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Anathapindika's Garden.

When the householder Anathapindika offered the Jeta Grove to the Sangha of monks from the four directions, the people of the world rejoiced and went in and out of the Jeta Grove. The householder Anathapindika thought: My temple has become too large, so if the Blessed One allows, I will enclose it with a wall. Thinking this, he went to where the Blessed One was, and after arriving, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat to one side. After sitting to one side, the householder Anathapindika said to the Blessed One: Venerable One, this temple has become too large, so if the Blessed One allows, I will enclose it with a wall. The Blessed One said: Householder, since that is so, you are allowed to enclose it. After he enclosed it with a wall, when the summer season came, the Jeta Grove was being flooded with water. When the householder Anathapindika went to bow at the feet of the Blessed One, he saw that the Jeta Grove was being flooded with water and thought: I enclosed the Jeta Grove with a wall, but I did not make a drainage hole, so this place is being flooded with water. Therefore, if the Blessed One allows, I will make a drainage hole. Thinking this, he said to the Blessed One: Venerable One, I enclosed the Jeta Grove with a wall, but I did not make a drainage hole, so this place is being flooded with water. Therefore, if the Blessed One allows, I will make a drainage hole. The Blessed One said: Householder, since that is so, you are allowed to make one. So he made a drainage hole. The cattle came and went, rubbing their bodies against the wall and butting it with their horns. When the householder Anathapindika saw this, he thought: I enclosed the Jeta Grove with a wall, but I did not weave a wooden fence, so the cattle come and go, rubbing their bodies against this and butting it with their horns. Therefore, if the Blessed One allows, I will enclose this with a wooden fence.

Having thought thus, he went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the householder Anāthapiṇḍika said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, I have a grove surrounded by the Jeta Grove, and because the wooden fence has not been woven, there are cattle, and having them, they touch it with their bodies and rub it with their horns. Therefore, if the Blessed One permits, I will weave a wooden fence." The Blessed One said: "Householder, since that is so, allow it, weave a wooden fence." After he had woven the wooden fence, those who take what is not given tore down the wooden fence and stole it. After some time, the householder Anāthapiṇḍika walked and went, and saw that the wooden fence was torn down in places and the wood was also stolen. He thought: "I have woven a wooden fence around the Jeta Grove, but it is torn down in places and the wood is also stolen, therefore, if the Blessed One permits, I will surround it with a moat." Having thought thus, he went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the householder Anāthapiṇḍika said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, I have surrounded the Jeta Grove with a wooden fence, but because it is not surrounded by a moat, it is torn down in places and the wood is stolen. Therefore, if the Blessed One permits, I will surround it with a moat." The Blessed One said: "Householder, since that is so, allow it, surround it with a moat." He surrounded it with a moat. The origin of the story is in Śrāvastī. In Śrāvastī there was a bhikkhunī named Star Queen, and her hair had become very long, so she went to a barber and said: "Boy, cut my hair, you will gain merit from it." The barber thought: "Just as the śrāmaṇas of the Śākya clan are very strict, so these people also make people work without pay. If I cut her hair, others will also come, so I will delay it for a long time and let her change her mind." So he let the noble lady leave.
