DKG009 0017.Explaining the Thirty three Confessions of Abandonment.g2.0f

English

After abandoning, one should confess the offense of expiation. The so-called offense of expiation refers to falling into places such as hell, animals, hungry ghosts, and evil destinies. Therefore, it is called an offense of expiation. So, how does one fall? For example, if a Bhikshuni obtains a robe on a certain day, then that Bhikshuni should bless, allow, relinquish, or give away that robe within those ten days. If she does not bless, allow, relinquish, or give away, then when the dawn of the eleventh day rises, she commits an offense of expiation. Just as obtaining a robe on a certain day, from the second, third, and so on until the tenth, that Bhikshuni should bless, allow, or relinquish that robe within those ten days. If she does not bless, relinquish, or allow, then when the dawn of the eleventh day rises, she commits an offense of expiation. If a Bhikshuni obtains one robe on a certain day and obtains another one on the following day, then that Bhikshuni should bless the first robe and allow or bless the last robe. Or bless the last robe and allow the first robe. If she does not bless, allow, or relinquish, then when the dawn of the eleventh day rises, she commits an offense of expiation. Similarly, if a Bhikshuni obtains one robe on the ninth day and obtains another one on the tenth day, then that Bhikshuni should bless the first robe and allow or relinquish the last robe, until the offense of expiation is committed. If a Bhikshuni obtains two robes on the first day and obtains two more on the second day, then that Bhikshuni should bless the first two robes and allow or relinquish the last two robes. If she does not allow or relinquish, then when the dawn of the eleventh day rises, she commits an offense of expiation. If a Bhikshuni obtains two robes on the ninth day and obtains two more on the tenth day, it should be explained in detail. A Bhikshuni on the first day

If a Bhikshuni obtains very many robes, and also obtains very many on the second day, then that Bhikshuni should bless the previous very many robes, and the very many robes obtained later should be made usable or discarded. Or bless the very many robes obtained later, and the previous very many robes should be made usable or discarded. If she does not bless, does not make usable, and does not discard, then when the dawn of the eleventh day rises, it is a Nissaggiya Pacittiya. If a Bhikshuni obtains very many robes on the ninth day, and also obtains very many robes on the tenth day, from this point until "it is likewise a Nissaggiya Pacittiya." If a Bhikshuni's robe has become something to be relinquished, and she has not relinquished it and has not separated from it, and has not confessed the offense, and then obtains another robe, then that robe also becomes something to be relinquished due to the previous connection. If a Bhikshuni's robe has become something to be relinquished, and she has relinquished it and separated from it, but has not confessed the offense, and then obtains another robe, then that robe also becomes something to be relinquished due to the previous connection. If a Bhikshuni's robe has become something to be relinquished, and she has relinquished it and separated from it, and has confessed the offense, and then obtains another robe, then there is no offense. For the beginner, the insane, the mentally disturbed, and those oppressed by feelings, there is no offense. In the Bhikshuni Vinaya Vibhanga, the first Nissaggiya Pacittiya is complete. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. Some Bhikshunis who had vowed to observe the summer retreat, at the end of the retreat, happened to obtain Dharma robes. They washed and dyed those robes, filled bags, tied them into bundles, and went wandering with the sanghati and antaravasaka. When they went wandering, they did not hide them and did not allow them to be hidden. If the Bhikshunis stayed there, then those who originally lived there, because of drying and shaking those Dharma robes, had many things to do and many actions to perform, and abandoned learning, reading, reciting, yoga, attention, and the inner peace of mind, so that those Bhikshunis with few desires scolded them.
