It is a lawful acceptance and can be enjoyed. 0 Even if one does not give to two or three others, or to a great many, or to the Sangha, it is still a lawful giving and a lawful acceptance, and it can be enjoyed. Monks, if someone gives to a great many but does not give to one other, it is a lawful giving and a lawful acceptance, and it can be enjoyed. Two or three others, or a great many, or not giving to the Sangha, is also a lawful giving and a lawful acceptance, and it can be enjoyed. Monks, if someone gives to the Sangha but does not give to one other, it is a lawful giving and a lawful acceptance, and it can be enjoyed. Two or three others, or a great many, or not giving to the Sangha, is also a lawful giving and a lawful acceptance, and it can be enjoyed. Monks, if the Sangha is divided into two factions, and the factions are situated in different directions, giving to one faction but not giving to the other is a lawful giving and a lawful acceptance, and it can be enjoyed. Monks, therefore, the former is giving, but the latter is not. The king has power over the land, the owner has power over the dwelling, and the monk has power over the alms bowl and the Dharma robes. The giver and the patron can manifest the merits to be given for their own giving, but they cannot allow others to give. Monks, seize the monk named Sound and give back that monastery. Those monks seized the venerable Sound and gave back that monastery. This is something that happened for a while, but the Blessed One will not temporarily establish the basis of the training for the hearers in order to subdue them. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Anathapindika's grove in Jeta's grove in Shravasti. A mendicant caused a householder to take refuge and established him in the basis of the training, and at another time, the mendicant

Then he praised that householder for the seven foundations of merit arising from material things. That householder said: Venerable, I will also do some foundations for doing good arising from material things for a while. Do so! What should I do? Please offer a feast to the Sangha of monks headed by the Buddha. I will do so. Is there also some clothing to give away? Venerable, although I have meager possessions, I can give away one piece of cloth. Venerable, tomorrow please invite the Sangha of monks headed by the Buddha to a certain place for a meal in my name. That almsman, at the time of the gathering, in the name of that householder, invited the Sangha of monks headed by the Buddha to another place for a meal. The monks said: Almsman, you have become a devotee of the householder. Almsman, does the householder offer a meal with offerings, or a meal without offerings? Venerable ones, it is with offerings, but that householder has meager possessions, so he offers one piece of cloth like this. Having heard this, Nida thought: Whoever can offer one piece of cloth to the Sangha of monks headed by the Buddha, that must be a very praiseworthy thing. If I don't snatch that cloth, I won't be called Nida. So the next morning, Nida put on his skirt, took his bowl and Dharma robe, and went to that householder's house. When he saw that householder preparing the feast, he asked that householder: Householder, what are you doing? Venerable, I am preparing the feast. Householder, the Blessed One said: Those beings who, in the morning, practice well with their body, and practice with their speech and mind, those beings will then be close to a good morning at that time. Those beings who practice well at noon, and in the afternoon, practice with their speech and mind, those beings will then be close to a good noon and a good afternoon at that time. The Blessed One said this, it is very good.
