Seeing about a hundred people coming, he wondered if they hadn't noticed something bad happening. But he saw that nothing had happened. Seeing a large piece of cloth and alms hung on the branches of the trees, he thought: This must have been done by those who have faith because of their faith. He thought: If one relies on the power of giving and receiving, is it okay? Because monkeys will eat the food, I should offer alms to the Sangha. Like this, what is not allowed for monks is allowed for monks. What is not allowed for nuns is allowed for monks. I should take these myself and go to offer alms to the Sangha. Thinking, he took those things and went to Jetavana. The custom of the Six Groups of monks is that none of the Six Groups of monks would leave the gate of Jetavana empty. Nanda was walking and sitting at the gate of Jetavana, saw the color of the lotus, and said: Sister, why did you open the gates of Shravasti so early and come? She said: I am not in Shravasti, I promised to be in the dark forest last night. Nanda said: Even if Nanda enters the dark forest during the day, his hairs will stand on end. Sister, what are you carrying? She said: There were about five hundred robbers there, and they became faithful, so they gave me these because of their faith. Sister, even robbers can have faith in you. If those Nandas see you, they will beat you with many whips and then take you to the execution ground. Like this, whoever has such a large piece of cloth should make two layers of coarse cloth and should devote himself to the good side from a young age. Venerable, do you want this large cloth? Like the remnants of the heavenly realm. Venerable, please hold it until I offer alms to the Sangha and come back, and then I will give you the large cloth. Nanda thought: Some people with black bowls will beg her for it and then give her something. Sister, my alms

Bring those who take the essence of alms, stay here until then. Nega entered the Victory Garden, and he saw the monks squatting like small birds while taking the essence of alms, so he said: O long-lived ones, the patrons are tired and sitting because of the burden, but you are squatting here like small birds, come here, take the essence of alms. They took their bowls and went over, and the lotus-colored nun offered them the essence of alms, then shook out a large cloth and offered it to Nega. Nega said: May you obtain the ornaments of the mind, the implements of the mind, the collection of yoga, the supreme meaning, and the clothes of gods and humans with this offering. The lotus-colored nun thought: What if I go to the summer house? I will go to prostrate at the feet of the Blessed One. Then, the lotus-colored nun went to where the Blessed One was, and after arriving, she prostrated with her head at the two feet of the Blessed One, and then sat down on one side. At that time, the five dharma robes of the lotus-colored nun were tattered and the patched cloths were also old. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, have the gains of the summer clothes of the nuns not been completed? Venerable one, they have been completed. Then, why are the five dharma robes of the lotus-colored nun lotus-colored tattered and the patched cloths also old? Venerable one, this sister has faith, is kind and has good thoughts, she has not failed to offer or completely give to the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, and satisfactory monks. Moreover, she also obtained a large cloth, and she also offered that cloth to the venerable Nega. Ananda, do the monks take the remaining clothes from nuns who are not relatives? Venerable

Please give. The venerable Kungawo (Ananda) offered five Dharma robes from the great monastery to the Bhikkhuni Utpalavarna. Then, the Blessed One gathered the Sangha of monks regarding this event, this origin, and this occasion. Thus and so forth, as before. My listeners should recite the root of the disciplinary precepts as follows: If any monk takes clothes from a bhikkhuni who is not a relative, it is an offense entailing forfeiture. Thus, the Blessed One established the root of the disciplinary precepts for the listeners. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Park in Shravasti. In Shravasti, there was a householder who took a wife from the same caste. He would play with her, rejoice with her, and enjoy happiness together. He thought, "I have so much wealth, but I have not taken any provisions for the next world." So he rested his cheek on his hand and sat absorbed in thought. His wife saw him and said, "Lord, why do you sit with your cheek on your hand, absorbed in thought?" He said, "Good woman, I have so much wealth, but I have not taken any provisions for the next world. If I were to offer a meal to the Sangha of monks, including the Buddha, and give each of them a set of robes made of Sarpa cloth, then that would take my provisions for the next world." The wife said, "Lord, do so." Then, that householder went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Blessed One taught that householder with Dharma-related speech, made him believe, made him rejoice, and made him delight. In various ways, he taught with Dharma-related speech, made him believe, made him rejoice, and made him delight, and then remained silent. Then, that householder rose from his seat, placed his upper robe on one shoulder, and folded his palms towards where the Blessed One was.
