Fifth, explaining the abandonment of taking. Fifth, explaining the abandonment of taking. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. At that time, the Bhagavan did not forbid the bhikshunis from dwelling in monasteries, so the bhikshunis also entered the monasteries and dwelt there, experiencing the bliss of dhyana, liberation, samadhi, and samapatti. Then, the bhikshuni Utpalavarna, with five hundred attendants, went to the dark forest. Having arrived there, they leaned against a tree and sat in the half-lotus posture, experiencing the bliss of dhyana, liberation, samadhi, and samapatti. Those bhikshunis, desiring to enter Shravasti, said, "The noble Utpalavarna should be awakened." Some said, "The noble Utpalavarna has great power and great magical abilities, so she will be the first to go to the summer retreat." They left without awakening her. Utpalavarna also arose and saw that all those bhikshunis had left, and she thought, "Should I go now, or should I stay here?" So she entered into samapatti to stop right there. About five hundred robbers, having finished their work, arrived at the dark forest. They said, "Two hundred and fifty of us should divide the loot, and two hundred and fifty should clear the forest." Two hundred and fifty of them began to divide the loot, and two hundred and fifty began to clear the forest. They saw Utpalavarna sitting there. Some said, "Wise ones, this is a stump." Some said, "This is a person." Some said, "This is a bhikshu." Then, one who knew the rules of bhikshus said, "This is a bhikshuni, not a bhikshu. How do I know? Bhikshus sit in the full-lotus posture, and bhikshunis sit in the half-lotus posture." They were amazed and said, "Wise ones, such a forest

They said, "Look, in this terrible place, a bhikkhuni alone has agreed to stay here at night." They went to the officer, and the officer asked them, "Wise ones, have you seen any wonders in this dark forest of yours?" "In this forest so terrible, there is a bhikkhuni alone who has agreed to stay here at night." They said, "Let's go see her." They went to her, and the officer saw that the bhikkhuni was Utpalavarna, with a beautiful form, pleasing to the eye, and beautiful. Having seen her, he became very convinced, and having developed great faith, he said, "Alas, this bhikkhuni is so good, she is like the sun and moon at night, with a beautiful form, pleasing to the eye, and beautiful." Then he began to beg, and they said, "Why are you begging? You should give food." One who knew the bhikkhuni's rules said, "She does not eat at the wrong time." The officer said, "Why?" He said, "She has given up eating at the wrong time." The officer said, "Alas, this bhikkhuni is so good, with a beautiful form, pleasing to the eye, and beautiful, and she has given up eating at the wrong time." He also said, "She should be given wine." The one who knew the bhikkhuni's rules said, "She has given up intoxicating drinks." The officer said, "Alas, this bhikkhuni is so good, with a beautiful form, pleasing to the eye, and beautiful, and she has given up intoxicating drinks." He also said, "I have not been able to beg from such a field of merit." Then he offered a suitable large cloth and a portion of alms food, hung it on a tree branch, and said, "Holy Mother, because you have no knowledge, no awareness, no recognition, and no discernment, I offer you this alms food and clothing." Having said this, he left. Utpalavarna got up early the next morning, saw the footprints of many people, and she thought, the five heretics
