Then, three times, with the Buddha's eye, he observed the world, (asking:) Who is declining? Who is increasing? Who is harmed? Who is distressed? Who is not at ease? Who is harmed, distressed, and not at ease? Who is inclined towards evil destinies? Who is falling into evil destinies? Who has fallen into evil destinies? I shall raise up from the path of evil destinies, and place them in the heavens, liberation, and fruition. From whose hands shall I draw out those who are sinking in the mire of desire? Who is deprived of the wealth of the noble ones, I shall place them in the dominion of the wealth of the noble ones. The world adorned by the appearance of the Buddhas, I shall make it fruitful. Those roots of virtue that have not yet arisen, I shall cause them to arise. Those roots of virtue that have arisen, I shall cause them to fully ripen. Those who are fully ripened, I shall liberate. Thus, knowing and seeing, he acts. Thus it is said: The poisonous creatures that dwell in the water, may pass beyond their time. But the Buddha's love for those to be tamed, will not pass beyond its time. Just as a mother cherishes her only beloved child, and protects its life, So too, the Tathagata cherishes those to be tamed, and protects their life. With the compassion possessed in the mind of the all-knowing one, He does not tire of seeking the untamed calves. His love for those who have declined in existence and evil destinies, is like a cow's love for a calf that is greatly weakened. Thus he acts. The Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, endowed with the power of the ten strengths, unshaken by the four fearlessnesses, vowing to be the supreme lion, truly roaring the lion's roar in the midst of the assembly, for this reason, seek his footprints here. This is the monastery of the venerable Kaundinya, when the Bhagavan's world was in the darkness of unknowing, without a guide, and without a complete guide, who first purified whose Dharma eye with the collyrium of the eye of wisdom? The Bhagavan, to the venerable ones, such as the crown princes of kings, and those who have long since gone forth, and those who manifestly practice celibacy, and those who hold the banner of the patched robe

Who is the one who was supremely prophesied by (the Buddhas)? In whose lineage, the Blessed One first turned the wheel of Dharma, which is most excellent and cannot be turned in accordance with Dharma by anyone in the world, whether it be a renunciate, a Brahmin, a god, a demon, Brahma, or anyone else, for the sake of many beings, for the benefit of many beings, for happiness, for compassion towards the world, and for the sake of the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans, in three rounds and twelve aspects. Therefore, seek the footprints here as well. This is the monastery of the venerable Mahakashyapa, who, like a great Brahmin Sala tree, abandoned plowing and went forth alone, renouncing excellence. He possessed sixty crore treasures, eighty golden granaries, eighteen villages of slaves, and sixteen villages of laborers. He abandoned his beautiful wife, who was more beautiful than gold, like ripened amla ashes. In the last watch of the night, he took a cotton cloth garment worth a hundred thousand and renounced everything for the sake of all the Arhats residing in the world. He dwelt in the forest to cultivate meditation, liberation, samadhi, and attainments. Seeing him, even the fragrant elephants would become free from fat. He vowed to show himself at the stupa of Buma and received the monastic vows. The Blessed One also said, "O monks, among my Shravaka disciples who are content with little desire and know satisfaction, and who speak of virtues, this is the most excellent, namely, the monk Mahakashyapa." He is the one who was praised by the Blessed One. Therefore, seek the footprints here as well. This is the monastery of the venerable Shariputra, who is the son who attained excellence, who studied Brahmin grammar for eight years and defeated all opponents. After ordaining in the Blessed One's teachings, the Blessed One declared him to be the foremost among those with great wisdom and great eloquence. The Blessed One placed the entire world in one-sixteenth of his part.
