They could not be suppressed by those people. After some time, a man named 'Holder of the Bird-Beak Staff,' who could withstand a thousand soldiers, came from the southern route. A minister presented him to the king, saying, 'O god, this 'Holder of the Bird-Beak Staff,' who can withstand a thousand soldiers, has come from the southern region for the sake of the god. The god should accept him.' The king accepted him and also distributed shares of enjoyment. After some other time, the kings of other countries of King Gang Gyang Chen became powerful and strong.

The one with the staff, capable of defeating a thousand soldiers, spoke in verse: You are the bird-quiver staff, only one friend has not abandoned you, it has been granted for a long time, all the friends have abandoned you. He abandoned all of them. Monks, what do you think? The king Gadgyangchen of that time was me. The bird-quiver staff of that time was Ananda. The five hundred ministers were these five hundred monks. Even then, they abandoned me. Now, too, they have abandoned me, but Ananda has not abandoned me. Furthermore, listen to how they abandoned me, but Ananda did not abandon me. Monks, in the past, when the Bodhisattva was living in an uncertain aggregate, in one direction of a mountain, he became a lion, the leader of wild animals. Five hundred foxes, eating his leftovers, followed him, lived near and dependent on him. The lion killed animals, drank the essence of meat and the essence of rocks, and then discarded them and left, and they spent a long time in this way. After some time, the lion, the king of wild animals, fell into a well while searching for animals at night, and out of those five hundred foxes, all but one of the five hundred foxes left separately. Only one fox cared about the lion and sat by the well, thinking about what method could be used to get it out, and as it walked back and forth around the well, after some time, it saw a pond not far from the well. After observing it, it dug from one side and let the water from the pond flow into the well, and the lion himself came out. The deity spoke in verse: Whether strong or otherwise, one should verbally thank a friend, look at how the fox rescued the lion from the old well. Monks, what do you think? The lion of that time was me. The one fox of that time was the monk Ananda. The one fox that did not make up five hundred was the five hundred monks.

These are they. However, these have abandoned me, but Kungawo (Joy) has not abandoned me. Even now, these have abandoned me, but Kungawo has not abandoned me. Furthermore, listen to how these have abandoned me, but Kungawo has not abandoned me. Monks, in the past, when the Bodhisattva resided in an uncertain aggregate body, in one direction, he became the lord of five hundred deer. At that time, a hunter, in order to capture the deer, set up traps, nets, and snares in great abundance. That deer lord, dwelling cautiously, wandered in the deer forest with five hundred attendants, and as he went at the head of the deer flock, he was caught in a net. Seeing that he was caught in the net, all the deer fled. Only one doe remained beside the lord of the flock. That deer lord, though he tried, could not cut the net, and as he struggled in that way, the doe, seeing it, spoke in verse: Who set this net? The hunter is here. Great one, please strive! Holy deer, please strive! He also spoke in verse: Though I plant my hooves in the ground and pull, the connecting net is very strong. I have greatly injured my foot, and if I cannot cut it, what is to be done? Then, that hunter, holding a bow and arrow in his hand, and wearing camouflaged clothing, went in that direction. That doe saw that the hunter was approaching in order to kill that deer lord. Seeing this, she hastily spoke in verse: Who set this net? The hunter is here. Great one, now please strive! Holy deer, please strive! He also spoke in verse: Though I plant my hooves deeply in the ground and pull, the connecting net is very strong. I have greatly injured my foot, and if I cannot cut it, what is to be done? Then, that doe, disheartened, went and appeared before that hunter, and approaching him, spoke in verse: Hunter, please put down your bow, hunter, please take up your knife, first kill me, and then deal with that deer lord. Then that hunter
