Then, the Blessed One, Shakyamuni Buddha, greeted the venerable Ananda: "Ananda, what is the reason for this loud and great noise of a large gathering of people in the Kunagrama monastery?" Ananda replied: "Blessed One, it is because the two monks, Gati and Nabhas, have made three allocations of beds and six possessions of beds, which has resulted in the monks obtaining beds. Therefore, there is this loud and great noise of a large gathering of people in the Kunagrama monastery." The Blessed One said: "Ananda, I made the three allocations of beds and six possessions of beds, considering those monks who are fighting, not for those who abide in their own nature. Therefore, the monks should not make three allocations of beds and six possessions of beds, starting with the monks who abide in their own nature. If they do so, it will constitute a serious offense." When the Blessed One, Shakyamuni Buddha, was traveling in the country of Kosala with the community of monks, he spent the night in a monastery in a deserted village. The group of six prepared a good tree for the Blessed One, and then each of them occupied other good trees. The elder monks, however, obtained hollow trees. King Pasenadi of Kosala heard of this and came to greet them with his fourfold army, and after bowing his head at the feet of the Blessed One, he inspected the elder monks. When he saw that the group of six were dwelling near the good trees, and the elder monks were seeing the hollow trees, he said, "I have seen it." Then he went to where the Blessed One was, and after bowing his head at the feet of the Blessed One, he sat down on one side. After sitting down on one side, King Pasenadi of Kosala said to the Blessed One: "Venerable One, I, as a king of the Kshatriya caste, am the chief ruler who has been consecrated from the crown of my head. Of all the jewels that come from all the lands, the most excellent objects belong to me. As for the remaining objects, they are distributed according to my wishes to attendants, youths, ministers, and the market."
