That field should not be taken as one's own. If it is taken as one's own, it will become a serious offense. The summary of the five sets is: Subduing before and self-discipline, non-attachment and likewise, appearance arising and occurring, interrupting in between and likewise, what is done later is a downfall, it is summarized in the summary. The intermediate summary is: What should be done before and others, inner and other all pure, benefiting many sentient beings, these five sets are the first. The Blessed One established the sutras and mother tantras for gods and humans. For the nagas, it is the sutras. The Vinaya is profound and appears profound, difficult to see, difficult to understand, with many meanings, and in accordance with worldly behavior. Because the Vinaya is profound, with many meanings, and in accordance with worldly behavior, the monks are not happy to recite it. This is the nature of the Dharma, that the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, especially praise any part of the teaching that has completely deteriorated. Then, the Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, there are five benefits for the holder of my Vinaya. What are the five? It is to subdue before the four assemblies. It does not depend on other instructions and following teachings. It protects the inner treasury of the Buddhas who have appeared in the past, future, and present as perfectly enlightened ones. It is on the head of other shramanas and brahmins. For the sake of the Dharma remaining in the world, for the sake of learning, it benefits many beings and brings happiness to many beings. The intermediate summary is: Oneself possessing precepts, welcoming in person, without regret, anger, or fear, acting in accordance with the Dharma, this is said to be the second five sets. Furthermore, there are five benefits for the holder of the Vinaya. What are the five? This is well guarded and well hidden by one's own aggregate of precepts. It is to be welcomed in person by the four assemblies. It becomes a teacher for those who have regret. It dwells without fear in the Sangha. It defeats outsiders by acting in accordance with the Dharma. The intermediate summary is: Unmixed meaning and certainty, and the basis of the training
