The Sangha granted me, the monk Cāruka, a half-month's penance for concealing for half a month the Sanghādisesa offense arising from intentionally emitting semen. While I was undergoing penance, I concealed another Sanghādisesa offense, a middling offense similar to the previous one. I, the monk Cāruka, having concealed a Sanghādisesa offense, a middling offense similar to the previous one, requested reinstatement from the Sangha. The Sangha granted me, the monk Cāruka, reinstatement for concealing a Sanghādisesa offense, a middling offense similar to the previous one. While I was undergoing reinstatement, I concealed another Sanghādisesa offense, a middling offense similar to the previous one, which was repeated. What should I do? At that time, the monks reported this to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: "Monks, you should grant reinstatement to the monk Cāruka, who concealed a Sanghādisesa offense, a middling offense similar to the previous one, which was repeated, and to anyone else who is similar to him. The granting should be done as follows: prepare a dwelling, strike the ghaṇṭā, and admonish the monks with words of inquiry. When the entire Sangha has assembled and is in harmony, the monk Cāruka should squat down at the end of the elders, prostrate with joined palms, and say these words: 'Venerable Sangha, please listen. I, the monk Cāruka, concealed for half a month the Sanghādisesa offense arising from intentionally emitting semen.
