How could my clothes and ornaments have been fully enjoyed together with others? He said: Prince, this is my fault. However, women are always prone to fault, please forgive me. Then, he became unbearable and drew his sword from its sheath, separating her from her life. Then, that girl cried out loudly: The mistress has been killed, the mistress has been killed! The great crowd of people heard this and ran over. At that time, in that pleasure garden, a Pratyekabuddha named Lekmon was meditating. Then, that wicked lotus stalk man, frightened, threw the bloody sword in front of the Pratyekabuddha Lekmon and entered into the midst of the great crowd of people. The great crowd of people saw the bloody sword and said: This ordained one has separated the life of the virtuous woman. Then, they surrounded that Pratyekabuddha and, becoming unbearable, said: Hey, ordained one, you have defiled the emblem of a hermit and done such a deed? He said: What have I done? They said: You enjoyed pleasures together with the virtuous woman and then separated her from her life. He said: I cannot bear this, I did not do this deed. Even though he spoke words of unbearable suffering, the great crowd of people tightly bound his hands behind his back and presented him to the king, saying: O divine one, this ordained one enjoyed pleasures together with the virtuous woman and then separated her from her life. The king, being unwise, said: If that is so, then take this ordained one away and execute him today! Then, they placed a garland of karavira flowers around his neck, and executioners wearing blue clothes and holding weapons surrounded him, proclaiming his crime on the great road, at the crossroads, at the four-way intersection, and at the three-way intersection. Then, they led him from the city to the other side of the pleasure garden. Then, the wicked lotus stalk man thought: This ordained one is an ascetic, without fault, and does not commit misdeeds. Now, because of my untrue accusation, he is about to be killed. If I abandon him, that is not my nature. So, he returned and went to the king, falling at his feet.

He said: This ordained one did not do this deed. I did this sinful deed. Please let this ordained one leave. Bhikshus, what do you think? At that time, the evil person, the lotus root, was me. I falsely slandered the self-realized Buddha. The ripening of that karma caused me to be boiled in the hells of sentient beings for many years. The remaining karma is that even now, when I have attained complete enlightenment, I am falsely slandered by the Brahmin girl Grass Person. This is uncommon. What deeds did the venerable Bhagavan do? The ripening of that deed caused two bhikshus and less than five hundred bhikshus to eat rotten food together in the enemy's borderland. The venerable Shariputra and Maudgalyayana enjoy heavenly food. The Bhagavan said: Bhikshus, the Tathagata himself did and accumulated karmas in other previous lives, until they become fruits, as mentioned before. Bhikshus, in the past, when the lifespan of beings could reach eighty thousand years, a teacher named Vipashyin appeared in the world, until the Buddha Bhagavan, as mentioned before. When he traveled around with sixty thousand attendants, he came to the royal palace of Good Friend City. A Brahmin in Good Friend City had five hundred Brahmin boys recite the secret mantras of the Brahmins. When he saw the fully enlightened Buddha Vipashyin and five hundred attendants, he said to the Brahmin boys: Wise ones, these bald-headed Shramanas are not worthy of enjoying heavenly food, they are only worthy of eating rotten barley. They also echoed and agreed with the Khenpo, saying: These bald-headed Shramanas are not worthy of enjoying heavenly food, they are only worthy of eating rotten barley. At that time, two fair-skinned Brahmin boys said: The Khenpo has spoken incorrectly.

Alas! These great beings are worthy of enjoying the food of the gods. Monks, what do you think? That five hundred Brahmins at that time were me. Because of the karmic ripening of the harsh words I uttered to the perfectly enlightened Buddha and the monastic community of hearers, I ate rotten grain for many years, many hundreds of years, many thousands of years, and many hundreds of thousands of years. Because of that remaining karma, even now that I have attained complete enlightenment, in a border area with enemies, I partake of rotten grain together with two monks and a monastic community of less than five hundred monks. Those two Brahmin boys were the monks Śāriputra and Maudgalyāyana. Venerable Blessed One, what kind of deeds did you perform that caused you to practice austerities for six years as a result of the ripening of those deeds? The Blessed One said: Monks, the deeds that the Tathāgata himself performed and accumulated in other previous lives, from 'are' to 'become fruits,' are as previously stated. Monks, in the past there was a prosperous town called Bēbhiṭingī, which was rich, flourishing, comfortable, fertile, and crowded with people. Monks, in the town of Bēbhiṭingī, there was a potter named Gāvakīrti who was very devoted to the Buddha, very faithful to the Dharma and the Sangha, took refuge in the Buddha, took refuge in the Dharma and the Sangha, was single-minded towards the Buddha, single-minded towards the Dharma and the Sangha, had no doubt or hesitation about the Buddha, had no doubt or hesitation about the Dharma and the Sangha, had no doubt or hesitation about suffering, its origin, cessation, and the path, saw the truth, obtained the fruit, and abandoned leaves and pestles. He would not dig the earth with his own hands, nor would he allow others to dig, except where it had been eroded by water or dug by mice. Then, taking the earth himself, he would mix it with water free of living beings, make pots, and set them aside, saying: May the noble ones or the beautiful ones be here.
