In an instant, he vanished from Shravasti and went to the great Dragon Lake. Yakshas, fierce and unbearable, reside there, a delightful place, adorned with various flowers and trees. From there, the four great rivers flow in four directions towards the poisonous sea. The Ganges, the Indus, as well as the Pakshu and Sita rivers, are impassable to people unless they have attained the power of magical abilities. The Tathagata and the Sangha dwell there. Thereafter, the Bhagavan generated the intention for the world. By the nature of Dharma, whenever the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, generate the intention for the world, even the minds of beings such as ants and the like will know the intention of the Bhagavan. Then the two Naga kings, Nanda and Upananda, thought: Why did the Bhagavan generate the intention for the world? They saw that the Bhagavan wanted to declare the cause of karma in the great Dragon Lake. After that, the two of them conjured up a thousand-petaled lotus in the great Dragon Lake, the lotus was as large as a chariot wheel, all made of gold, the stem was of precious jewels, the stamen was made of vajra, surrounded by thousands of lotuses. The Bhagavan sat in the center of the lotus with the Sangha of monks. The elder monks also sat in the center of the other lotuses. At that time, the venerable Shariputra was sewing his robes on Vulture Peak Mountain. After that, the Bhagavan said to the venerable Maha Maudgalyayana: Maudgalyayana, bring your ordained friends here. The venerable one replied: As you command. The venerable Maha Maudgalyayana vanished from the great Dragon Lake and came to Vulture Peak Mountain in front of the venerable Shariputra and said: Venerable Shariputra, the teacher Arhat, leading the five hundred monks, missing one, wants to declare the cause of past karma in the great Dragon Lake, please come here. He said: Venerable Maha Maudgalyayana.

Oh, sew the patchwork robe for a while, and then leave later. He said: Friend, do so. Then, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana began to sew with all five fingers by means of magical power. The venerable Śāriputra said: Venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana, is the sewing already finished? He said: Venerable Śāriputra, if you do not leave, I will subdue you with power. Then, the venerable Śāriputra untied his belt and said: Venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana, you are the foremost of those with magical powers as declared by the Blessed One. For a while, you take this, and then later I will take it. Then, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana took it, and the venerable Śāriputra thought: This one has great power and great magical abilities, if he were to take it, this place would exist. So he placed it on the hut of Vulture Peak Mountain. The venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana took it, and Vulture Peak Mountain began to shake. The venerable Śāriputra thought: This one will even take Vulture Peak Mountain. Rather, I will place it on Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains. So he placed it on Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains. Again, when the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana took it, Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains, and the dragon kings Nanda and Upananda also shook. Lake Anavatapta was also completely disturbed, and the elder monks also swayed, and while sitting on the lotus heart, they asked the Blessed One: Venerable, for what reason did the two dragon kings Nanda and Upananda shake? The Blessed One replied: Monks, it is not that the two, Nanda and Upananda, shook, but rather two great Śrāvakas are performing transformations by means of magical power. The venerable Śāriputra thought: This one will even take Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains. Rather, I will place it on the lotus stalk of the Blessed One. So he placed it on the lotus stalk of the Blessed One, and it remained unmoving. When his magical power against magical power

When disturbed by illusion, the Blessed One said to the venerable Shariputra: "Venerable Shariputra, you have already played with magical powers, Come here, I want (to rest). Venerable Great Maudgalyayana, go, and I will come." Having said this, before the venerable Great Maudgalyayana arrived, the venerable Shariputra went ahead, bowed his head to the feet of the Blessed One, and sat on the lotus heart. After that, the venerable Great Maudgalyayana arrived, saw the venerable Shariputra, and said: "Venerable Shariputra, have you come?" "Venerable, I have come." The monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: "Venerable, the Blessed One has said that the venerable Great Maudgalyayana is the foremost of those with magical powers, but look, the venerable Shariputra has defeated him with magical powers." The Blessed One said: "Monks, not only now, but listen to how he also won with skill in the past. Monks, in the past, in the Middle Country, there was a teacher of painters. He went from the Middle Country to a place called Naiskan for some needs. There he entered the house of a teacher who made mechanical arts. That person, in order to relieve his fatigue, made a girl from mechanical arts and sent her to him. He washed the girl's feet and sat down. Then he said to her: "Go." But she sat without saying a word. He thought: "This must be what the demon didn't eat, and was sent to have fun with me." So he grabbed her hand and pulled her up, but she immediately shattered and turned into a pile of rotten wood. He felt ashamed and thought: "I am only ashamed alone, I will make the king and his courtiers ashamed." So he drew his own image on the outside of the door, and then hid behind the door. When she got up, dust fell down. Then the teacher who made mechanical arts thought: It's been a long time.
