By cultivating the four immeasurables, abandoning desire for all pleasures, and abiding on this path, one is born sharing the same fortune in the Brahma world. Great King, as long as I (referring to the Buddha) was a king, possessing the power to rule, ruling the entire Jambudvipa, ruling the eastern Purvavideha, the western Aparagodaniya, the northern Uttarakuru, and residing on the seven golden mountains. Until I went to the abode of the Thirty-three Gods and resided there, during which one hundred and fourteen Shakra's deaths and rebirths were completed. Great King, the lifespan of Shakra, the lord of the gods, is such that one hundred human years is one day for the Thirty-three Gods. Thirty days make a month, and twelve months make a year, by which the lifespan of the gods is calculated. If calculated in human years, it is three hundred and sixty trillion years. Great King, when King I (referring to the Buddha in a previous life) went among the Thirty-three Gods, I thought, 'Alas, why doesn't Shakra offer me half of his seat?' At that time, that Shakra was the Bhikshu Kashyapa. When King I (referring to the Buddha in a previous life) conceived such a thought: 'I will drive Shakra from this position, and I myself will rule over the kingship and power of gods and humans!' At that time, that Shakra was the Fully Enlightened Buddha Kashyapa. Because of generating evil thoughts towards such a powerful being, he declined from his wealth and came to Jambudvipa, suffering from severe illness, experiencing unbearable pain close to death. Great King, what do you think? Who was that King I (referring to the Buddha in a previous life) at that time? It was I myself. No matter how much benefit I had done for those beings, I did not attain unsurpassed wisdom because of it. However, those were only the cause, condition, and accumulation for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment.' The king arose with doubt and questioned the Buddha, the Bhagavan, who cuts off all doubts.

Sapa, what meritorious deed did you, the royal monk, perform, that as a result of that deed, as soon as you generated the mind of enlightenment, a rain of gold fell in the palace for seven days? Great King, in the past, there appeared in the world a teacher, a Tathagata, an Arhat, a Samyaksambuddha, perfect in knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a knower of the world, an unsurpassed guide for taming beings, a teacher of gods and humans, a Buddha, a Bhagavan, named All-Subduing. At that time, there lived a merchant's son who had recently started a family. In that land, it was the custom to send a bride with religious ceremonies, and soon after, to send a dowry. The bride who was to be sent to her husband's house was adorned with flowers made of four kinds of precious jewels, and then sent to her husband's house. The husband's family would then take her and go to their own home. The merchant's son, holding flowers made of four kinds of precious jewels, rode on his mount and set off for his own home. After he had set off for a while, on the road, the Samyaksambuddha All-Subduing was traveling and wandering. He saw that great being adorned with the thirty-two major marks, who was pleasing to behold, and he developed great faith. Then, with a mind filled with faith, he dismounted from his mount and scattered those flowers made of four kinds of precious jewels upon the Samyaksambuddha All-Subduing. The Samyaksambuddha All-Subduing blessed those flowers so that they became as large as chariot wheels, and they followed him whether he walked or stayed. He developed faith and spoke in verses: By this great generosity, may I become a self-born Buddha among beings. May I liberate those beings who have not been liberated by the previous victors. I scatter beautiful golden flowers upon the Bhagavan All-Subduing, the great sage. At that time, desiring this supreme state, I made vast aspirations. May the city of Great Joyful Vision also become gold, by the ripening of the merit of that.
