Born with companions such as wrong views and discontent, she requested ordination as a Bhikshuni from the Teacher and attained Arhatship. Furthermore, an impoverished old woman, unable to die and weeping, offered the venerable Katyayana a bowl filled with water. The venerable one bestowed upon her a verse on Dharma and dedication. Consequently, she was reborn in the Trayastrimsha heaven as a goddess, and together with five hundred attendants, she requested Dharma from Katyayana and attained fruition. Therefore, strive to maintain pure intention, accumulate merit, and especially exert yourselves in offering mandalas and generating Bodhicitta. This is the second seed of Dharma born from Dharma. The third seed of Dharma born from karma is: As stated in the text, "Meditate on your happiness and virtues dissolving into all sentient beings; the suffering and defilements of sentient beings, dissolve into your body." Think in this way and recite the ten-syllable mantra. The first two lines are loving-kindness, the latter two are compassion, and the last line reveals the essence of loving-kindness and compassion. A detailed explanation of these is: In the Ratnakuta Sutra, it says, "No matter how many immeasurable offerings, even offering to the most excellent being in countless Buddha-fields, it cannot compare to even a little cultivation of loving-kindness." It also says, "One will become beloved by gods and humans, be protected by them all, have a happy mind, much joy, and be free from the harm of poison and weapons. One will attain accomplishments without effort and be reborn in the Brahma world. Even if one does not attain liberation, one will obtain the eight qualities of loving-kindness." Furthermore, in the Maha-moksha Sutra, it says, "Whoever guards pure morality in a pure world for one kalpa, is not as excellent as one who practices the conduct of loving-kindness for a moment." It also says, "Whoever in this world commits evil deeds with body, speech, and mind, will surely fall into the three lower realms, but the mind of loving-kindness will immediately liberate." Furthermore, in the Lalitavistara Sutra, it says, "Poison and weapons cannot harm one endowed with Bodhicitta. Zombies and other fears will not arise. A Bodhisattva endowed with Bodhicitta will not be harmed by others. The Maras with armies, and the black retinues with banners and claws, are destroyed by the power of loving-kindness. One will also fully awaken to unsurpassed Bodhi in peace." Furthermore, in the Ratnavali, it says, "Even giving food to three hundred Brahmins three times a day, cannot compare to a moment's cultivation of loving-kindness."

Sa! Good deeds are not affected by rain. (This is a quote.) Also, in the "Adornment of Manjushri's Pure Land," it says: In the northeast direction, there is a Buddha land called "Adorned with a Thousand Trillion Buddha Fields of the Great自在王 Buddha," in which all sentient beings possess happiness like a monk entering cessation. There, practicing pure conduct for hundreds of thousands of trillions of years is not as good as, in this land, even for the duration of a finger snap, generating a mind of loving-kindness towards all sentient beings, the merit accumulated is far greater than the former. What need is there to mention abiding in it day and night! Thus it is said. Therefore, the benefits of cultivating loving-kindness are limitless, and relying on loving-kindness, compassion arises; relying on compassion, the mind of enlightenment arises; relying on the mind of enlightenment, Buddhahood is attained. Second, the benefits of compassion. In the "Ornament of Clear Realization," it says: Secret Lord, the root of attaining omniscience is great compassion, and the cause is the mind of enlightenment. And, in the "Compendium," it says: In the human world, the demons and diseases of earth, water, fire, and wind increase, but the blessings of benefit and compassion are a mass of fire. And, in the "White Lotus of Compassion," it says: If a Bodhisattva possesses one dharma, then in his hand are all the dharmas of the Buddhas. What is this one dharma? It is great compassion. Thus, the root of the Great Vehicle, the basis of Secret Mantra, the method of cultivating loving-kindness and compassion is: Orgyen Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) said: The main object of loving-kindness and compassion is the mother who gave birth to the body, whose kindness is immeasurable and endless in samsara, therefore, cultivate immeasurable loving-kindness and compassion towards her. First, my poor mother, no matter how much food she eats, her stomach cannot be filled; even if she doesn't eat, she becomes bloated and uncomfortable. Her mouth constantly sighs, and her lips are dry and cracked. Her nose makes loud noises, and her face is pale and without luster. Both her body and mind become weak. Her hands and feet become very thin, and she feels very tired. My mother is so pitiful! Meditate on this from the depths of your heart. Then, as she gets older, she feels tired when working, and even when she feels a little thirsty, she feels short of breath. Her joints in her hands and feet, she cannot stand up or sit down. She doesn't know anything, and all the various actions and strenuous labor of her body are harmful to me.

Being very careful out of worry, and if not feeling any movement, thinking, "What's wrong with my child?" and feeling distressed, thinking, "How pitiful, how immensely kind!" Then, seized by the pain of childbirth, all the joints of the limbs separate and break. The lower half of the body is as if cut off, making a "hollow" sound. From the top of the waist, drops of dust-like things fall. Unable to stand, rolling around. Crying out "Ah, ah!" Scratching the pillow with fingernails, giving birth in a state where bones, joints, and eyes are all breaking, how pitiful! Then, when falling onto the bedding, even amidst such pain, unable to bear it, picking up and holding to the chest. Still unable to sleep peacefully, thinking, "Is my child sick? What's wrong?" Even if crying a little, thinking, "Is it hungry? Thirsty? Or has a ghost come? What's wrong? Is it going to die?" Heart pounding, wiping away urine and feces with hands, sucking snot with the mouth, licking the mouth, holding to the chest, raising with such love, this poor mother is so pitiful! How immensely kind! Thinking like this, contemplate. Still, feeding delicious food, enduring all hardships, dressing me in soft clothes, even while working, thinking, "Is my child hungry? Thirsty? Cold? Fallen? Fallen into water? What's wrong?" Even if the body is tired, running to kiss my mouth. Even if unable to communicate with words, speaking many words, raising with such love, how pitiful! Contemplate like this. Furthermore, if even slightly unwell, heart trembling, face turning black, performing rituals and treatments. If sick, thinking of all possible remedies. If recovering, thinking of what to give, what to do, even if needing to beg, being willing. Raising in such a way, thinking of all possible benefits and remedies, how pitiful! My kindness is immeasurable, contemplating from the heart for my happiness. Also, these kind parents of mine, for my sake, worrying about my child, whether it be wealth, clothes, house, or fame, nothing is easily obtained. Disregarding hunger and cold, disregarding fatigue and hardship, disregarding gossip and shame, even disregarding life, striving solely for my sake, how pitiful! How immensely kind! Not only that, but for my sake, experiencing so much joy and sorrow, hardship and difficulty! Especially, raising this worm-like body of mine to now possess memory and strength, born in a land possessing Dharma, now able to recognize cause and effect, meeting with the Lama and Buddha, now able to practice Dharma, parents who have raised me with such great kindness!
