should not be lost. From the Sutra of the Ten Wheels of Earth Essence, it says: If asked how one can, through the power of warmth, truly perceive the movement of breath in and out? The answer is: to count them as they truly are. Thus it is said. The Vajra recitation of the three syllables is: As the Nyingma school says, "Manifestation of Manifestation." When the breath and mind arise simultaneously, recite Om (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) as it enters, Ah (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आः,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:啊) as it dwells, and Hum (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) as it exits. With these three aspects, one can purify the obscurations of body, speech, and mind, and all of the three realms can be transformed into the three vajras, accomplishing the vajras of body, speech, and mind, and giving rise to great coemergent bliss. Such is the meaning of what is said. When the breath enters through the nostrils, remember the sound of Om When it dwells slightly within, remember Ah When it goes out, remember Hum There is no need to visualize the shape of the letters or the color white, etc. Without being interrupted by other thoughts, recite about fifty times. Then gradually increase to five hundred times, etc. The left is the life breath, and the right is the working breath. Alternate tightening and relaxing. Relaxing is similar to abandoning effort. In the Red Guidance of the great accomplished Mitra, it says: First, there are three points to calming the mind: calming the mind based on an object, calming the mind focused on thoughts, and calming the mind resting in non-thought. The first type has two: holding the mind outward and holding the mind inward. Holding the mind outward has two: impure and pure. The first is impure, with the posture of the body possessing the seven dharmas of Vairochana and the gaze, placing any object in front of oneself, such as a pillar, vase, branch, pebble, etc., and holding the mind without distraction, with the essential points of the body and the gaze. Do not let the mind wander, nor spread thoughts, but relax and rest on top of it. Furthermore, if dullness or agitation arises, one should also know to hold the mind upward, downward, to the right, and to the left. The second is pure, holding the mind on the form of the victorious ones. Place an image of the Bhagavan Amitabha in front of oneself, or if there is none, visualize it. Do not spread thoughts, nor let the mind wander. Simply relax and rest without distraction, this is holding the mind on the pure form of the victorious ones. The second is holding the mind inward, which also has two: impure and pure. The first is impure, holding the mind on a bindu. On a lotus and moon seat in one's heart, visualize a white bindu radiating light, the size of a mus

Just hold the mind on that point, do not spread any thoughts, and do not indulge in distraction. This is the instruction for taking thoughts as the path without abandoning them. The peaceful abiding of the path is the instruction for taking thoughts as the path and holding the mind by placing thoughts on the path itself. Second, holding the mind on the pure body of the Victorious Ones: In your own heart, on a lotus and moon seat, hold the mind on the body of Avalokiteśvara, full of color and light. Do not spread any thoughts from there, and do not indulge in distraction. If dullness or agitation arises, meditate on both purity and impurity at the forehead and navel, and then hold the mind. This is peaceful abiding based on signs. Second, peaceful abiding by placing the mind on thoughts: Especially when thoughts move, whether it is the five poisons, the three poisons, or other afflictions, or the thoughts of grasping and clinging to samsara, whether it is the ten virtuous actions, or the thoughts of the six or ten perfections, or when any non-virtuous thought arises, stare at its essence with non-thought, so that it becomes peaceful in non-grasping, and awareness appears as clear emptiness, clearly appearing in an ungraspable state. Through self-knowing and self-realization, cultivate in the state of self-liberation. Again, whatever thought arises, place the mind on it, without acceptance or rejection, recognize its own nature, and thus practice the instruction of taking thoughts as the path. Third, the ultimate peaceful abiding is holding the mind on non-thought: In a dark, quiet room, on a soft cushion, sit in the seven-point posture of Vairocana, and stare blankly at the empty space between the eyes. Do not think of the three thoughts of the past, future, and present, and the thoughts of virtue, non-virtue, and neutrality. Completely cut off the flow of thoughts of the three times. Do not think of anything in the mind. Let the mind be open in clear emptiness without grasping, like a clear sky, and abide clearly and brightly, so that the peaceful abiding of bliss, clarity, and non-thought arises. Do not develop attachment, hatred, clinging, or stubbornness towards it, examine whether dullness or agitation has arisen, distinguish its advantages and disadvantages, and recognize it. As it is said, everything is included within it. The nine methods of abiding the mind spoken of in the sutras are: placing, continuous placing, settling, close settling, taming, pacifying, completely pacifying, unifying, and equanimity. The meaning is to focus the mind on any one object, continuously, and maintain it with mindfulness.
