Having done evil deeds, beings go to bad destinies. Just as having many roads laid out, a traveler goes comfortably. Similarly, having done good deeds, beings go to happy destinies. It is said that even if one commits evil for the sake of others, others will not share the burden; one must experience it oneself. As it says in the Letter to a Friend: 'You should not commit evil for the sake of Brahmins, monks, gods, guests, parents, wives, or retinues, for there is no sharing of the ripening of hell.' It is said. One should not despise even small deeds of virtue or non-virtue. As it says in the Collection: 'Do not despise even the smallest evil, thinking it does no harm. By accumulating drops of water, even a large vessel gradually becomes full.' And: 'Do not think that having done a small evil, it will not come back to you. Just as a large vessel is filled by falling drops of water, so too, a fool is filled by accumulating even a little evil.' Do not think that having done a small good, it will not come back to you. Just as a large pot is filled by drops of water, so too, a steadfast person is filled by accumulating even a little good. It is said. Even having done a small evil, it will cause great fear and great destruction in the next world, like poison entering the body. Even having done a small merit, it will lead to great happiness in the next world, and will accomplish great things, like crops ripening abundantly. It is said. The arising of the three poisons as a cause is non-virtue. As it says in the Precious Garland: 'Desire, hatred, and ignorance—the actions arising from these are non-virtuous. From non-virtue comes suffering, and likewise, all bad destinies.' It is said. That seems untrue. If you think that great evildoers are happy in this life, as it says in the Collection of Special Topics: 'Evil does not immediately cut like a weapon, but the fruit of evil deeds will manifest in the next life.' And in the Letter to a Friend: 'Having committed evil deeds, they do not immediately cut like a weapon, but when the time of death arrives, the fruit of evil deeds will become manifest.' And in the Four Hundred:

Most people also hold onto the non-holy side. Therefore, most individual beings will surely fall into the lower realms. As stated in the "Bodhicharyavatara": Suffering arises from non-virtue, how can one be liberated from it? Day and night, I should only contemplate this. It also says: Suffering, unpleasantness, and all kinds of fears, and separation from desires, arise from sinful actions. Having committed sins but desiring happiness, wherever one goes, the sins there will completely destroy with the sharp weapon of suffering. So, what non-virtues, when committed, cause one to be born where? In the "Lokasthapana Sutra": Those who commit sins with their body, those who commit sins with their speech, and those who commit sins with their mind, sentient beings will be born in the hells. Hating each other and harboring malice, people fighting each other, for hundreds of millions of years, will be born in the Reviving Hell. Driving others to do what should not be done, and separating people's friendships, speaking false lies, will be born in the Black Line Hell. Cows, goats, sheep, buffaloes, and wild animals, pigs, and crows, likewise killing other lives, will be born in the Crushing Hell. Sentient beings who kill, fiercely drinking blood, practicing all evil deeds, will be reborn in the Small Crying Hell. Covered by the darkness of wrong views, bound by the bonds of existence, practicing holy deeds, will be reborn in the Great Crying Hell. Monks, Brahmins, virtuous people, and those who kill their parents, and those who kill their teachers, that person will be burned in the Extremely Hot Hell. Whoever says that Dharma is non-Dharma, and says that non-Dharma is Dharma, slanders holy people, with the view of non-existence will fall into the Avici Hell. Again, it says therein: Greed and delusion and terrible anger, killing humans and non-humans, and killing other places of life, these people will surely be reborn in the Reviving Hell. Taking the wealth of gods and sages, killing ascetics, cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats, and wild animals, pigs, and vultures, likewise killing other lives, will be born in the Crushing Hell. Those who kill parents, Buddhas, and Shravakas
