With the wealth of the four means of gathering, I prostrate to you who are devoted to the welfare of others! To explain the meaning of what was said in detail: Even during the time of practice, when Dharma and worldly affairs are contradictory, during the time of benefiting beings, apart from the difference in intention, Dharma and worldly affairs are a union. Even if one gives a small amount of food and wealth to a patron or monk, but expects a great return, this is a wrong livelihood, the cause of falling into the lower realms. To the hungry and thirsty travelers, immediately give whatever food and drink is available. To the travelers coming from afar, provide travel expenses to sustain their livelihood. To the worthy patrons of offerings, give offerings, gifts, and so on. To those who are very eager for Dharma and teachings, give pens, ink, and paper. In order to make up for the interruption of Dharma due to the lack of Dharma resources, replenish the resources so that the Dharma can be complete. To students who are capable of benefiting others, give appropriate books and offerings. For these, do not expect great returns and respect. This is the giving of necessities, the conduct of a Bodhisattva. The way of doing things is no different from the above, but the difference in intention leads to both good and evil. To those coming from afar, give a welcome, and to those leaving, wish them progress in their practice, and so on. Comfort the sorrowful, and even to those who hold wrong views and practice evil ways, do not scold them, but praise their good qualities. To those who may not listen to advice, do not speak harsh words, but speak gently, and guide them to the right path with skillful means. This is a Bodhisattva. Benefiting beings with pleasant words is like the saying "honey in the mouth, a dagger in the heart." Praising those who act wrongly, praising with the mouth but feeling ashamed in the heart, speaking sweet words but being cruel in the heart, showing white teeth. Such evil thoughts are the cause of falling into the lower realms. These two ways of acting are similar, but the meaning is different, the difference lies in the intention. If you respect yourself and listen to others, you can quell strife and conflict, eliminate the obstacles of the patrons, and fulfill all their wishes. If you can guide them to the Dharma, you should also take care of relatives, servants, and so on. Even if you have no attachment to relatives and patrons, you should live in harmony with worldly people. This is called "worldly benefit," the door to the Bodhisattva's benefit of beings. Even if you cannot guide relatives, servants, and so on to the Dharma, you should

Supporting with wealth through kinship, one will be reborn as a mule in the next life, this was said by Songtsen Gampo. If one toils to care for relatives and monastic communities, and is attached to family lineage, it is certain to be a cause for falling into the lower realms. In order to gradually turn things towards the Dharma, if it is so, then that itself is benefiting beings. For the sake of craving offerings and Buddha images, the repelling, fire offerings, empowerments, and rituals, reversal slips, empowerments, transmissions, guidance, etc., that are done, are all obstacles for this life and long-term obscurations, and are great hindrances to attaining enlightenment. One should know that all beings are parents, especially those patrons who have expectations of oneself, can dispel the obstacles of this life, and learn merits from those with virtues, this is beneficial for this life. Giving empowerments and writing slips for patrons, learning close practice from virtuous and wise individuals, etc., and introductions to experiences and realizations, etc., these are the methods for obtaining happiness in the next life. Placing beings in benefit and happiness is the fundamental purpose of the Buddha's teachings. There is no difference in the way these two are done, but they differ due to the difference in intention. The gateway for Bodhisattvas to benefit beings is called the altruistic conduct of the tamer, and the rain-making and village rituals done for the sake of food, are similar and similar, and very easy to confuse, do not confuse them, understand with your own mind. If monks are handsome, wear fine clothes, and chant fluently, many will gather, and great lamas will naturally arise in response, wherever they go, there will be beings to be tamed. After thinking this, they surround many young people, thinking that the fragments of chanting are the Dharma. Those whose minds are tamed and who have experience and realization are as rare as stars in the daytime. The main practice is profit and trade, greed, hatred, and attachment burn like fire. Making offerings for the living and performing religious services for the dead, they think it is enough to just do these. They are greedy for wealth and do not know contentment. All the vows and commitments, if lamas, Dharma holders, etc., do not teach them, they think that is enough. Men gather together, that is a gathering. Gatherings also have good, bad, and middling types. Regarding the pure appearance of the actual Sangha, the saffron Dharma robes and skirts, etc., it is difficult to wear them even once in thousands of kalpas. When the teachings decline, all the saffron robes will be taken by the gods to the heavenly realms, and made into stupas to be offered to. Even if it is difficult to make everything uniform, among the many monks, even if there are only a few who are beneficial to the teachings, and are virtuous teachers.
