Obstructed by (afflictions). It is true that it is difficult to abandon when food and clothing are abundant. When praise is heard, arrogance soars. Arrogance is an obstacle to liberation. Praising without deserving praise depletes merit. At the time of death, fame does not follow. Therefore, even if praised, abandon joy. Hearing evil words gives rise to anger. At that time, observing its essence becomes meaningless. Suffering slander without cause eliminates obscurations. Therefore, even when suffering evil words, cultivate joy. Do not recite verbally, transform it into the realm of view. If there is harmful slander against the Dharma or one's own lineage, it is said that it needs to be purified. After that, the places to go to solitary retreats are explained. First, blessed by the heroes and dakinis, in the middle, the great master of Oddiyana (Padmasambhava) trod with his feet. Successively recognized by the great accomplished ones, belonging to the branch places of the Grass Mountain. One hundred great places, one thousand and two small places. Staying in these places for one night and practicing is superior to practicing for one year in other places, because it comes from prophetic teachings. It is best to practice in such places. Even if it is not like that, practice in the practice places of the Kagyu lineage, or places trodden by feet. All methods of practice are said in this way. In addition, one should avoid places that have declined and places that are defiled. First, even if that place has blessings, due to the evil deeds of many who have broken vows and precepts, the place is defiled, and practice does not progress. If one has the ability to attain the highest realization, one can restore the decline of the place through tsok, fire puja, and consecration, and practice can increase, but new practitioners and those with low realization should not reside there. There are also two types of defiled places. The door of the place is not opened, and when it is opened, the dependent origination is wrong. The lords of the place, the heroes and dakinis, are very fierce, and meditation, warmth, and miracles all appear. If realization is high, it will manifest and attain accomplishment. For example, like the cave where Milarepa lived. If realization is low, there will be obstacles, and one may even lose one's life. For example, like the purulent ravine of Sipu. Places, monasteries, solitary retreats, etc., were initially auspicious and had blessings, but in the middle, due to evil deeds, demons invaded. Whoever resides there is inauspicious, and obstacles arise. Those with ability can perform blessings through fire puja, suppression, and subjugation. That person
