Without discrimination, nothing arises in the realm of mind. If everything is mind, what appears and what doesn't? It will surely arise in the infinite consciousness. With self, others, and meaninglessness, No concepts arise, But not wanting non-arising either. Neither existent nor nonexistent, cutting off ignorance. As it is said, in the essence of mind, whatever arises, without affirming or denying, accepting or rejecting its essence, abiding in ordinary self-nature, in a state without observer or observed, if one does not recognize seeing one's own face in a moment of non-distraction, but fabricates with the mind, holding with certainty that all phenomena and mind are as limitless as the sky, or thinking that phenomena and mind are emptiness without any inherent existence, or thinking that all phenomena are mind and mind is like the sky, free from the four extremes, or thinking that mind is a single emptiness free from both existence and non-existence, holding onto this with strong certainty, this is Bhepa falling into the four extremes of birth. Furthermore, if one does not understand the meaning of "abiding in ordinary self-nature," but follows whatever the mind thinks, accumulating the karma of the three poisons of attachment, aversion, and ignorance, then one is no different from an ordinary worldly person. Therefore, one should let whatever arises self-liberate and not follow it, so one does not fall. If one does not allow the five consciousnesses of the eye's form, the ear's sound, etc., to arise, and does not remember anything, and meditates on a consciousness without movement, then one enters into unconscious absorption, like all sleeping animals and the Chinese Heshang's school. If one does not block the arising of various consciousnesses, but looks at their essence and lets them self-liberate like waves dissolving into water, then one does not fall. If the mind does not move at all, and one remains fixed on any object, but without the clarity of seeing one's own face, remaining dull and unclear like falling asleep, then this is called stagnant or confused calm abiding. Therefore, one should unite one's own nature of emptiness and the appearance of clarity, the union of clarity and emptiness, clear like a butter lamp without wind. With one's own naked and clear awareness, one does not fall into Bhepa's mistake. Although such calm abiding, clarity, awareness, and emptiness are united, if one develops attachment to the great bliss of body and mind through its power, then one will fall into the six desire realms. If one is attached to the clear awareness, then one will fall into the seventeen form realms of no clouds, no heat, etc. All phenomena

If you cling to the notion that the self-nature is uncreated and spontaneously accomplished, the cause, the Tathagatagarbha, permanent and unchanging, as something that is inconceivable, without error, and an unchanging, permanent, and solid entity, then you have gone too far with self-nature, erring like a delusion. If you do not understand that formlessness, soundlessness, etc., are devoid of inherent existence, and you think that there is nothing at all, then you are slandering dependent origination, and you have gone too far with emptiness, erring like nihilism. If you want to know how to cut through those errors, the Tantra of the Sky Treasury says: Without following after arising sensations, you will not err into the place of ordinary worldly beings. Because you do not obstruct the five consciousnesses, you will not err into the place of non-perception. Because you hold the meaning of profound wisdom, you will not err into the place of the unstated. Because you do not cling to the taste of calm abiding, you will not err into the place of mind-holding contemplation. Because you do not meditate on the object of existence and non-existence, you will not err into the extremes of permanence and annihilation. Thus it is said. In short, the essence of mind is itself the Dharmakaya, so there is no need to fabricate it. How it arises and abides, the lowest examine and analyze it, and emptiness arises as the Dharmakaya. The middling stare intently at whatever arises, and the Dharmakaya arises spontaneously. The best leave whatever arises unfabricated, letting it go naturally, and like water and waves, everything arises as the single essence of the Dharmakaya, with the same taste. Without fabrication, without desire, and without attachment to good experiences, practicing these three will cut through all errors. In the Tantra of the Definitive Meaning Gathering it is said: Like the sun rising without darkness, realizing the meaning of the self-born Dharmakaya, errors and obscurations, object and mind, are purified from the ground. All phenomena are mindless, the body of enlightenment. And in the Tantra of the Great Compassionate One, the Supreme View, it is said: The intention of the Great Compassionate One, with the power of its own abiding, pacifies all afflictions and conceptual thoughts, and remains clearly in the meaning of the self-illuminating nature of reality. With the power of insight, whatever conceptual thoughts and afflictions arise, they abide without an object because their own essence is empty. Because calm abiding and insight are combined, one does not fall to the extreme of appearance, and one abides in self-awareness, empty without grasping at mind. One does not fall to the extreme of emptiness, and although nothing is established, everything appears in the essence of emptiness. Emptiness and appearance are inseparable, and the essence is the nature of reality and the nature of mind.
