In between. If it is forever, then as long as I live, whenever I observe the fasting vows, I will definitely and correctly take the upavasatha vows. Recite this three times. After reciting it once, repeat the second time. Also, as mentioned earlier, kneel down and join your palms. Recite "Listen" etc., and pray three times. The scriptures say to recite it three times. Repeat the third time. After reciting it three times, say that you have observed the fasting vows and have also obtained the precepts, very good. The disciple says: Very good. The teacher says: This is a skillful means. After obtaining the precepts in this way, the white side of the month of miracles is a hundred million times more meritorious. The Saga Dawa month is a special time of the white side, because the fifteenth day of that month is the time of manifesting enlightenment. If not, any other time is also fine, observing the fast from the first to the fifteenth day, and performing the subsequent rituals on the sixteenth day, observing the fast for sixteen days is also the white side. At that time, if you can recite the Eleven-Faced Avalokiteśvara fasting ritual and recite the dharani, then the practice of the Eleven-Faced Avalokiteśvara is the complete great Dharma. However, since everyone does not know it, the lama recites the ritual and the dharani, visualization, conduct, and practice will appear. If you cannot do that much, you can also observe the fast for two days, one day of silence, and one day of recitation, observing one day in this way also counts as one fast. The different characteristics are: when one is in self-retreat and observing a single session, one can eat the three kinds of meat from the market. Here, during a single session of fasting, one cannot eat meat and blood during the day. Bones and fat are also not allowed. Other silent retreats do not have restrictions on food, and there are no prohibitions on recitation and chanting, only not talking to others. Here, during the silence of fasting, food, drinks, and even water are not allowed. Recitation can only be mental, and no sound can be made. The body can only stay still, and prostrations and circumambulations are not allowed. Why is that? Because the smell of food emanates and causes the insects in the abdomen to feel the suffering of hunger, so it is not allowed. After breaking the silence, drink a full bowl of clear water or sugar water. If you do not drink it, the insects will suffer from famine. Therefore, you cannot drink more. The eight things to do during a single session of fasting, taking water, taking off shoes, etc., all those

It should be put into practice, thinking about when to keep these fasting days, please repeat. If it is to start immediately, then it must be said from now on. At that time, one should not kill, nor should one take the wealth of others, one should not engage in sexual activity, nor should one tell lies. Alcohol, which has many faults, should be completely abstained from. One should not sit or lie on high and large beds, and similarly, one should not eat untimely food, fragrances, garlands and decorations, songs and dances should also be abstained from. Just as Arhats constantly do not commit killing and other acts, similarly, abstain from killing and other acts. May I quickly attain unsurpassed Bodhi! May I be liberated from this world that stirs up many sufferings, from the ocean of existence! Say this three times. That is, after keeping the fast, that is, after promising to uphold the precepts, say "Good". The disciple says: "Good." The teacher says: "This is the method." Also, from the great tantra of the Amoghapasha, the detailed ritual, by fasting with this dharani, after taking the eight-branch precepts, without speaking, recite the essence of the Amoghapasha twenty-one times. Just reciting it is enough, and one will have great pure morality. One will completely perfect the Paramita of morality. The fragrant scent of morality will produce many scents on the body and will be proclaimed in the ten directions of the world. Whoever recites this dharani every day, his morality will always be completely pure. Whatever decline of a monk, by fasting, just reciting this mantra is enough, and the morality will be completely pure. As it is said, therefore, if it is the time to go to the white side, recite it twenty-one times each day. Here, at the time of granting vows, there is also a custom of reciting only a little to show the dependent arising, so please repeat this dharani. Homage to all the Tathagatas! Homage to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Arya Avalokiteshvara! Om Amogha Shila, Sambhara Sambhara, Bhara Bhara, Maha Shuddha Sattva Padma Bibhushita, Bhuja Dhara Dhara, Samanta Avalokite Hum Phat Svaha!
