Because it is impossible for the worldly path to abandon all its own objects to be abandoned. Relying on this, the sixteenth moment also does not rely on other grounds. ) If someone thinks that below the fifteenth moment of the seeing path, the fifth of the desire realm's cultivation to be abandoned is abandoned, and it is impossible to abandon the sixth in the sixteenth moment. It should be known that, like the calm abiding below the fifteenth moment, it is also impossible to abandon the eighth below the fifteenth moment and abandon the ninth in the sixteenth moment. Therefore, the noble ones who are preceded by detachment from desire are only the two in the middle. When the sixteenth moment of the fruit of the seeing path is obtained, the sharp-witted Dharma followers and the dull-witted faith followers of the past obtain the names of "obtained by seeing" and "desired by faith" respectively. From then on, it should be understood in the same way until entering the fruit of Arhat. (The difference of entering the stream has two types: entering and dwelling. Entering, if distinguished by the path, is fifteen because it dwells in the fifteenth moment of the seeing path. Each of them also has six kinds because of being free from desire, that is, from not abandoning the cultivation to be abandoned to abandoning the fifth. Each of them also has two kinds, that is, the faith followers have five lineages, from the one who regresses to the one who is capable. Each of them also has three kinds of faculties. Each of them also has nine kinds of supports, that is, the three continents and the six desire heavens. Thus, there are a total of twenty-two thousand seven hundred and fifty kinds. Similarly, the Dharma followers have no distinction of lineage, so there are two thousand four hundred and thirty kinds. Those who dwell in the fruit, the faith-resolved ones have no distinction of other followers and paths, because everything stops at the sixteenth moment, so there are eight hundred and ten kinds. Those who have seen and obtained are related to other Dharma followers, and there is no distinction of paths, so there are one hundred and sixty-two kinds, and the difference of entering the stream is like this. The once-returner who is preceded by detachment from desire has two types: entering and dwelling. Entering also has two types, the faith followers are the same as other stream-enterers, and there are three kinds because of being free from desire, that is, four thousand eight hundred and sixty kinds. The Dharma followers have no distinction of lineage, and are the same as the previous other Dharma followers, so there are one thousand two hundred kinds.

Fifteen. Regarding their dwelling, the faithful followers are not divided by lineage, like those who follow faith, there are four hundred and fifty. The second dwelling, those who have attained sight are not divided by path, like those who follow the Dharma, there are eighty-one. For the sake of the preliminary to detachment from desire, there are two abodes of the non-returner: entering and dwelling. There are two types of entrants, namely five lineages and one lineage, and transforming into three faculties, and the basis is nine, just like the former. In particular, followers of faith, due to detachment from desire, number sixty-four, namely half of the three meditative grounds and the first formless realm, sixty-three, and either having abandoned the small amount of desire, or possessing all the bonds of the first meditation. Thus, there are one hundred twenty-nine thousand six hundred. Followers of the Dharma are not divided by lineage, and the others are similar to this, numbering twenty-five thousand nine hundred and twenty. These abodes have many distinctions, so there are many ways of speaking about them, and they are generally said to be similar to the gradual ones below.) Then, why is it that even if one has abandoned up to the fifth level of what is abandoned through cultivation in the desire realm, and dwells in the sixteenth moment of consciousness, one is only called a stream-enterer, and not a once-returner? Because the one who dwells in the sixteenth moment of consciousness, having attained the fruit of stream-entry (merely), does not at that time attain the path of a special fruit, that is, the path of a once-returner, so that is not a stream-enterer. Why? Because in order to attain the special abode of the fruit of stream-entry, one does not strive (in the application of abandoning afflictions) (therefore, it is not a stream-enterer). (If one were a stream-enterer, one would have to be joined with the antidote, attain liberation, and generate the uncontaminated, then one would be a stream-enterer.) Thus, those who dwell in the previous fruit do not strive to not regress, so at the time of the sixteenth moment of consciousness, they are merely dwelling in the fruit, and not dwelling in a special fruit. The special abode is striving to attain the later fruit. This refers to abandoning the eighth level of what is abandoned through cultivation in the desire realm, dwelling in the sixteenth moment of consciousness, and detachment from desire from the realm of desire or nothingness, dwelling in the sixteenth moment of consciousness.
