After venerating seventy-five thousand Buddhas, the last one was the Buddha named Jewel Crest, who reversed the order of the scriptures, and at that time the first countless kalpa was completed. From then on, in the second countless kalpa, after venerating seventy-six thousand Buddhas, the last one was the Buddha Dipamkara, and at that time the second countless kalpa was completed. From then on, in the third countless kalpa, after venerating seventy-seven thousand Buddhas, the last one was the Buddha Vipashyin, who appeared ninety-one kalpas ago, and at that time the third countless kalpa was completed. Thus, at the end of these three countless kalpas, these Buddhas appeared, and it should be known that the earliest of them was the past Buddha Shakyamuni. (In front of him, prayers such as "How is your body, O Sugata?" were recited.) If it is said that in the time of the Buddha Vipashyin, these three countless kalpas were already completed, then from Jewel Crest to Kashyapa, it would not be appropriate to attain Buddhahood again, because the accumulation of merit has been completed by three countless kalpas, and it is not appropriate to take birth again after the accumulation of merit is completed. If so, then at that time, although the accumulation of merit was completed and countless kalpas were completed, it was not completely complete in all aspects, therefore, when Kashyapa Buddha attained Buddhahood, he practiced celibacy, and after dying from here, he was born into the race of gods in Tushita, and this sutra is also considered reliable, so the teacher Karmapa explained. In the root text of the "Medical Treatise," Ananda said: World Lord, O Guide, when you practiced Bodhisattva conduct in the past, how many Buddhas did you venerate, at what time, and how did you venerate them? And King Clear Light asked the venerable Bhagavan, how many perfectly enlightened Buddhas did you venerate for the sake of unsurpassed Bodhi? (In the first great countless kalpa,) from Buddha Shakyamuni to the guide Protector of the Realm, I venerated seventy-five thousand Buddhas. (In the second countless kalpa,) from Buddha Dipamkara to Shakyamuni Victorious Banner, I...

I have worshiped six hundred thousand kotis of Buddhas. (Also in the third countless one) From the Buddha Well-Made onwards, To the Buddha Light-Protected, I have worshiped seventy-seven thousand. In that third countless one, I have worshiped the Victorious Ones, While practicing for enlightenment, At that time, I had no weariness. Thus, it is said that the Buddhas who appeared at the end of the countless ones are also slightly different from this. The Mahayana scriptures, such as the Extensive Play Sutra, state that one has served and honored hundreds of thousands of kotis of countless Buddhas, and that one has made offerings to fifty-five hundred thousand kotis of Buddhas, etc. Therefore, it is believed that in each countless one, countless Buddhas have been served and honored. Furthermore, in what circumstances does a Bodhisattva perfect the six paramitas? When, with compassion, one does not desire the excellence of this life, but gives away everything, including one's body and possessions, even down to the insignificant feet, to all sentient beings, that is the time when the perfection of generosity is complete. This should be regarded as a Jataka tale. The Vinaya Pitaka states that when a Bodhisattva performs great generosity, that is when the perfection of generosity is complete. Moreover, the Bodhisattva-bhumi says that at the time of giving, parents are fields of merit like gurus, so one should not give them to others. Similarly, one should not give away sons, wives, servants, etc., if they have not been given generous rewards or are unwilling. At the time of offering, one should not offer inferior things, such as those smeared with ashes, dripped with rancid butter, burned with foul-smelling substances, or with Argha flowers, etc. When one has not separated from desire and, even in attachment, does not become angry even when limbs are cut off, at that time, because the mind is not disturbed, and in order to restrain the misdeeds of the body, the perfections of patience and discipline are completed in order, like the Jataka tale of the Rishi who speaks of patience. When the Teacher became a Brahmin boy, he saw the Buddha Star-King entering the fire element samadhi in a mountain cave, and stood on one foot for seven days.
