What is "is"? There is, namely, in the desire realm, the intermediate existence of rebirth, which causes twenty-two kinds of rebirth in the desire realm. That is, the soft, the tender, the long, the round, the stage of stretching limbs, namely the five stages of the fetus; childhood, adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and old age, namely the five stages of birth, totaling ten. Thus, these ten stages, and the definite and indefinite experiences are divided into two kinds, because the intermediate existence itself practices both definite and indefinite experiences. Among them, the eleven karmas of definite experience are called those who experience retribution in this very life. Why? Because the intermediate existence and its definite result have eleven stages. (Because it is one rebirth, like from childhood to old age, it is only reborn from experiencing retribution after birth.) They are of the same kind. (Because) they are only reborn from the karma of experiencing retribution after birth. Therefore, if the intermediate existence is definite, then it is the intermediate existence. Other karmas of experiencing retribution are not mentioned. (This is because of lack of wisdom, so it is said that the other two karmas are not done, wanting no turning back.) The indefinite experience has already been explained. The so-called desire realm is because there are no ten stages such as softness in the form realm, and there is no intermediate existence in the formless realm. What is the karma of definite experience? That is, the non-virtuous karma done with intense afflictions, and the virtuous karma done with intense joy (whatever it is, it is determined by the power of intention), and there is no intense affliction or intense joy, nor is it constantly done, but the Three Jewels and special fruits, such as the stream-enterer fruit and the Arhat fruit, and special samadhis, such as the cessation samadhi and loving-kindness and the field of merit of samadhi without afflictions (the Three Jewels and the place of reliance on cessation samadhi, etc., mentioned below), doing benefit and harm, and the virtuous and non-virtuous karmas that are constantly done, and likewise, intense motivation and constant doing

Even without a father, the karma of killing parents, like those who are cut off in the middle, even if done with a mind of merit, will become an action of immediate retribution, so (no matter what the motivation, it will become an action of immediate retribution,) it is certain to experience the ripening result. (In this way, those are certain to experience the result because the three, field, intention, and action, are complete with power.) Other than those, others are uncertain. Furthermore, what kind of karma is experienced in this very life? The karma that bears fruit in this very life is of two kinds: transformation due to the difference in the field and transformation due to the difference in intention. Among them, transformation due to the difference in the field is that in the past, in the teachings of the Buddha named Victorious One, this teacher, when he became the son of a wealthy family, generated the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment and, having renounced, became a master of the three baskets. At that time, when a dispute arose in the Sangha, this master of the three baskets caused the dispute to escalate again, and a monk who held the sutras expelled the master of the three baskets, and the dispute was calmed. The master of the three baskets said angrily, "Have you calmed the disputes of the women?" Having spoken harsh words, he immediately became a woman, and again was born as a woman for five hundred lifetimes. Later, having faith in the Buddha named Jeweled Crown, he was able to obtain a man's body. This is explained in the Minor Matters Sutra, which elaborates on the realizations of many Buddhas: "From then on, the Victorious Buddha's, previously became a master of the three baskets, when the monks of the Sangha disputed, saying that the Sangha was women, having committed the sin of speech, approached the body of a woman, again with the initial strong mind, became the body of a man," just as it is said. Transformation due to the difference in intention is that in the past, the blind hunchback of King Kanishka, seeing a person driving five hundred oxen, asked him what he was doing, and he said he was plowing. That person thought, "I also did such a thing before, so now I experience such suffering. This person, having done this karma, will also experience suffering like me in many lifetimes," and so he bought those oxen with wealth and plowed with a strong intention.
