When she returned from there to her own home, her seventh son had also died, but she did not grieve for him. Her husband said, "You used to grieve when your sons died, but now that your seventh son has died, you don't grieve. Did you eat those sons yourself?" The Brahmin woman said, "Brahmin, I have eaten thousands of sons and grandsons, and hundreds of relatives, for a long time. You are the same. In those births, thousands of sons and grandsons eat each other, there is no limit. In this world, after knowing that there is definite liberation from birth and death, who would be completely grieved or utter lamentations? I have relied on the Buddha, and because I know that there is definite liberation from birth and death, I do not grieve and have no suffering." Like this, it arises from the cause of sorrow.

If asked: Does it change? It does not change. Because non-virtuous actions disturb the elements arising from actions, and when the elements are disturbed, the mind becomes agitated and distracted. Therefore, the elements arise from non-virtuous actions and are the result of maturation, while mental distraction arises from those elements that are the result of maturation and is the effect of the action's outflow, not directly from non-virtuous actions, so it is not the result of maturation. Furthermore, in the commentary, it is said that there are four possibilities regarding mental distraction and extreme distraction. Among them, distraction refers to the mental agitation arising from the disturbance of the elements, as previously mentioned, while extreme distraction refers to a mind afflicted by defilements. Therefore, neither of these two is a result of maturation. If asked: Where does the extremely distracted mind reside? (Because it only enjoys the results of virtuous maturation and has no other causes of distraction.) It does not refer to unpleasant sounds, but rather exists in various sentient beings who possess desire, except for unpleasant sounds. Even among the gods of the desire realm, there are mad ones, so what need is there to mention animals and hungry ghosts? Hell beings are constantly extremely distracted because they are afflicted by unbearable suffering, and for a moment, they cannot even remember themselves, let alone what should or should not be done. Even noble beings other than the Buddha have extreme mental distraction due to the imbalance of the elements. However, they do not have distraction caused by karma, distraction caused by fear, distraction caused by harm, or distraction caused by sorrow. This is because, in order, the determined karma has already ripened, and the undetermined karma will not ripen from then on; and because they have transcended the five fears of having no food, having no verses, fear in the assembly, death, and the lower realms; and because they do not do unpleasant things that cause non-humans to be disturbed; and because they have realized the nature of reality that is free from sorrow. Buddhas do not have mental agitation, death from epidemics, hoarse voices, or white hair, because this is the essence of the result of maturation of extremely pure karma, as taught by the teacher Guṇaprabha. Furthermore, in the Sutra of the Three Names and Three Signs, it says, the three qualities of body, speech, and mind, the three faults or transgressions, and the dregs.
