However, this is similar to mind and mental factors as well, that is, from the mind and mental factors that operate in the desire realm, sometimes operating in the desire realm, sometimes operating in the form realm, and sometimes also producing uncontaminated mind and mental factors (as well as twenty-two kinds, etc.). Therefore, the former ones are well manifested. Therefore, similarity is (feelings of two categories not arising, etc.) things being similar, and the immediately preceding condition is immediately producing the result. (Non-associated formations also mix, becoming the three realms and uncontaminated, manifesting simultaneously.) Moreover, this is only for those that have arisen (past, present), and not for the unarisen, because the unarisen has no before and after. (Just as the present is not the immediately preceding condition of the present.) The immediately preceding condition is also distinguished in terms of before and after. If the unarisen has no before and after, then it will not arise sequentially, and the Buddha will not (after this, this will arise) know in a sequential manner, if you say that, that is not the case. In general, because cause and effect are related, they arise sequentially when they arise. The Buddha knows, either by directly knowing the sequence of the past and present through the power, or by knowing through inference from the past and present, some people think so. Others think that (in the continuum of sentient beings) there is a difference in non-associated formations that has become a sign of the fruit of the unarisen arising sequentially. By directly knowing it, the sequence of the unarisen is known. It is not that the sequence of the unarisen is directly known by the present wisdom, because there is no sequence when the unarisen is. Saying that the unarisen has a sequence is because they will arise sequentially when they arise, and arising will become past and present. Thinking that the sequence of the unarisen is known through the power of the past and present, there will be the fault of not understanding the end of the previous, and not understanding the end of the later. The Blessed One knows that at the end of a certain unarisen, this unarisen will arise, by knowing the sign of the fruit of the unarisen arising sequentially, if you think so, then there will be the fault of the Buddha having inference, and the cause

Therefore, there would be the fault of the prior fruit already existing. If it is thought that past consciousness and mental factors are the same in their own time and arise immediately thereafter, then future consciousness and mental factors will also arise in their own time, so the future will also become an immediately preceding cause. If it is thought that the future is not a cause in the present because it has not arisen, then the past will also not be a cause because it has ceased. Saying that the action has ceased, but the thing has not ceased, is also not a valid answer, because the same applies to the future. This prevents the non-acceptance of equipotential and pervasive causes as future. Here in the commentary, there are four possibilities of the same immediately preceding consciousness and the immediately preceding consciousness, and four possibilities of the same immediately preceding consciousness and the immediately preceding two samadhis. The first question is: Which dharmas are the same immediately preceding consciousness, are they also the immediately preceding consciousness? There are four possibilities. The first possibility is: the consciousness of contemplation arising from the two samadhis without mind, and the second moment of the two samadhis, and so on. (Although it is generated by the entering consciousness, there is an interval in between.) Among them, the rising consciousness is interrupted by the moments of samadhi, but not by other consciousnesses. The second moment of the two samadhis, and so on, because there is the saying "entering the two samadhis through the three samadhis," it is the same immediately preceding consciousness. The rising consciousness is interrupted by the moments of samadhi, and the second moment of the two samadhis, and so on, are interrupted by the first moment of the two samadhis, and so on, as appropriate, so it is not the immediately preceding consciousness. The second possibility is: the characteristics of the arising of the first moment of the two samadhis without mind, and so on, and the characteristics of conformity and attainment, and so on, and the characteristics of the actions of all consciousnesses and mental factors in the state with mind, and so on, and the characteristics of conformity and attainment, and so on. These are because there is no interruption by other moments between the previous consciousness and the two.
