To say that those are the operative causes (because they are able to obstruct but do not obstruct, so they are causes, just like saying the king makes them happy) is the tenet of the Vaibhashikas. Or, if it is thought that light, etc., weakens darkness, etc., as an obstruction, that is because it is the operative cause. The non-existence and destruction of darkness, etc., are not caused by light. Since other obstructions besides those are also unreasonable, if it is said correctly, obstruction is because the cause is incomplete, the result does not arise, or it is said to be the cause of weakening, there is no contradiction. Secondly, the co-emergent cause is that which is mutually the result. For example, (of the same collection) the four great elements, such as earth, are mutually co-emergent causes, and mind and mental concomitants are also mutually co-emergent causes. The characteristics of conditioned phenomena are also the cause of the basis, and the basis is also the cause of the characteristics. The word "same" is to indicate that here, mind and mental concomitants are not directly mentioned mutually, and the characteristics are also mutually the result. This is what the teacher Gangspel said. If they become causes mutually, then the characteristics of similarity, such as the birth of phenomena such as vases, will not become co-emergent causes, because similar characteristics do not benefit the Dharma. Although it is so, this is mostly the case, not universally, this is a supplementary explanation. (For the basis represented by a general conditioned phenomenon, such as a vase, the four self-characteristics of one, and the four and eight characteristics that follow those together produce the co-emergent cause, but the four identical characteristics and the basis and their respective three companions arise together, but the co-emergent cause at the time of those productions is not like a king's close attendant who cannot directly do things for the king. The act of producing does not apply to the three companions either. Mind and mental concomitants one by one

Although it is the cause of consciousness, not all corresponding characteristics are the common cause of all their respective characteristics, like sesame seeds and oil. Forms, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, etc., and the seven abandonments of individual liberation and the four elements arise together, and although they are those that arise, they are not the arising, and so on. Moreover, conditioned things like a pot and its characteristics such as arising, other than their own, act as a common cause for eight dharmas to arise together, and from the arising of arising, it only produces root arising and acts as a common cause, up to the destruction of destruction only produces root destruction. Mental factors and the two vows, and the mind and the mental followings, the characteristics of those are the mental followings, because they follow the mind in ten ways. The ten ways are generally the same time. Because when the mind is established, they are also established. In particular, the time of birth is the same, the time of dwelling is the same, and the time of cessation is the same, that is, the four times are the same. The self-effect is common to all dharmas, so abandon it. The agent effect and the separation effect are the same, only the effect is the same. If it is the ripening effect of the mind, then they are also, so the ripening effect is the same. If it is their similar cause effect, then they are also, so the similar cause effect is the same, that is, the three effects are the same. Those minds are the three followings of virtue, etc., that is, they follow the mind in ten ways.) Some say that the characteristic of this is different from the simultaneous cause and effect of the corresponding cause, but it is not so. Because the corresponding cause will become not a co-arising cause, and the pot and the eye consciousness that holds it, and the lamp and the light, and the sprout and the shadow, and the water dependence on the ground, etc., will also become co-arising causes. Therefore, the characteristic of this is the former. Saying that it is not pervasive is a fault of the tenet. Then, what are the dharmas that follow the mind? Mental factors and the two vows of stainless concentration, and the mind and (mental following) mental factors, and the characteristics of the arising, etc., of those two vows are the followings of the mind.
