It is not so, because without their respective causes and conditions (assemblies), mere birth will not produce future things (now). However, it is through causes, conditions, and assemblies that things arise. (If causes and conditions come together and produce a result, then they are the cause. Even if birth has another meaning, if causes and conditions do not come together, it cannot produce, so considering it a cause is meaningless, like Ishvara, etc.) Although the Vaibhashikas say this, birth as another meaning has already been refuted. Ninth, explaining the aggregates of names, etc., briefly stated, the aggregates of names, etc., and the word "etc." includes speech and letters, these are the three aggregates of names, speech, and letters. Among these, a name is that which expresses the essence of a thing, such as "form." Speech is a word, which shows the distinction of meaning, such as "Alas, conditioned things are impermanent," etc., or like "form which is invisible and has obstruction," as much as the meaning is completely expressed by words (showing treatises, etc.). Words can understand actions, such as "Devadatta (white-clad) goes," etc.; can understand qualities, such as the color "white," etc.; can understand the difference in temporal relations, such as "cooked," "is cooking," "will cook," etc. (essence, qualities, and actions). A letter is the basis or part of a name and word, such as "ka," etc. Etymologically, "Akshara" (藏文,梵文:अक्षर,罗马转写:akṣara,汉语:不变) means immutable, because according to convention, its form does not change, just as the letter "ka" does not change for many people who do not agree on the convention. "Vyāñjana" (藏文,梵文:व्यञ्जन,罗马转写:vyañjana,汉语:显明) means making clear (function), because it is the clarifier of names and words. Or (necessary), because it expresses meaning through transmission, therefore it is a letter. Therefore, grammarians say: Because there are no multiple forms, and it clarifies names and words, and expresses all meanings, therefore it is called a letter. Names and words change according to convention, just as for "bloated belly," there are different names such as "pot" and "ghaṭa." An aggregate is an assembly, such as a rosary, etc. The meaning is also explained, the Vaibhashikas

Some believe that "speech" refers to "name," and "name" expresses meaning. The Sautrāntika school argues that if conventional symbols (such as "vase," etc.) are used to define boundaries, then both can understand the meaning (such as "bloated stomach"), so there is no need to adhere to the order of "speech" and "name." As the commentary says, "Speech indicates earth, light, livestock, eyes, vajra, heaven, water, and nine meanings; the wise should clearly grasp the sound 'go'." Just as the word 'go' can express nine meanings. If boundaries are not defined by conventional symbols, then neither can become an expression of meaning. Moreover, it is not appropriate to say that "speech" refers to "name" as making it clear or producing it, because "speech" is the nature of sound. If all sounds can make "name" clear or produce it, that would be unreasonable. If it is thought that "name" and so on are also the nature of sound, then it is nominally established on the form aggregate; if it is thought to be nominally established on the general characteristic of sound in the realm of conceptual thought, then because it has no self-nature, it is not substantially existent. The Vaibhāṣika school believes that the nature of sound is not like this, but it is indeed the realm of conceptual thought. If it is not substantially existent, it will lead to the fault of not being able to express meaning. Some think so. (If it is said that letters are not components of syllables, then no, letters are ka, etc., which appear only in the mind, and in order to understand these, ka, etc., which have become the shape of syllables, have been made. Sound alone cannot understand meaning, so name, sentence, and letters are not sounds. Therefore, speech refers to the name that clarifies or produces the name, and the name expresses and understands the meaning, so the Vaibhāṣika says. The Sautrāntika school believes that sound alone is not speech, but the sound that the speaker defines with conventional symbols (such as "vase," etc.) for the meaning, because it can understand the meaning, so it is speech, so what is the use of labeling the object of cognition with names, etc.?)
