Those that arise from half of the earth element's mind are also with an object. The remaining half and eleven elements are not corresponding, so they are established as without an object. Among those elements, there are nine that are not completely grasped by the mind. Which are they? Those that are said to be objects, half and eight, and half of the dharma element and eight, and sound. (Among them, the eight are not form, because they are not included in the collection of the five senses, and sound does not produce grasping touch.) The remaining elements, the five senses such as the eye, and the other nine called form, smell, taste, and touch, are both grasped and ungrasped. Among them, the past and future of the five senses are ungrasped, and those that arise in the present are grasped. The four, such as form, that arise in the present and exist in the collection of senses are grasped. Other than those, those that are included in the continuum, even if they are present, such as hair, body hair, nails, teeth, feces, urine, saliva, mucus, blood, etc., except for the root, and the four, such as form, that are not included in the continuum, are also ungrasped. Here, the meaning of grasped is that, because of the benefit or harm to the senses, feelings of pleasure and pain arise, so the mind and mental factors closely grasp the object of reliance, which is what is called having a mind in the world. Therefore, the teacher also widely said that what is grasped belongs to the body, and for mutual adaptation, the mind and mental factors closely grasp the object of reliance. Here it is said that the past and future of the five senses such as the eye are ungrasped, which is a hypothetical establishment by the Vaibhashikas, because the past and future do not exist in themselves due to being extinguished and unborn, and non-existent things should not be senses. Therefore, in the Compendium of Topics and the Five Aggregates Treatise, it is also said that the five, such as the eye, are only grasped. In the Differentiation Treatise, it is also said: Haven't these been divided into two in other treatises? Although it is said, there it is not said that the past and future are not grasped, because that is non-existent. What does not exist cannot be said to be grasped or ungrasped. The present is...

I exist in that, and it is contained by mind and mental events. It is said that the eye and so on are not uncontained. Therefore, since the faculties are contained as one, it is reasonable to say that there are nine uncontained, five contained, and four that are both. Furthermore, among the eighteen elements, the element of touch is both the element and that which is transformed from the element, because the four, such as earth, are the element, and the seven, such as smoothness, are transformed from the element. The remaining nine form elements, such as the eye, are transformed from the element. One aspect of the element of phenomena, namely, non-contactual form, is also transformed from the element, because it is said, "The great elements are the cause; that is said to be non-manifesting form," since it is considered to be the form of a non-contactual fruit. The remaining seven mind elements and the element of phenomena, excluding non-manifesting form, are neither the element nor transformed from the element, which is established (i.e., non-form). Here, the venerable Buddha Deva says that among the twelve sources, the ten form sources are merely elements, which is unreasonable. Because the sutra says that the elements are only four, and it is said that they have characteristics such as hardness, and those hardnesses and so on are also touchable, and the eye and so on do not grasp hardness and so on, and the body faculty does not grasp colors and so on, and the sutra says, "Bhikkhus, touch is an external source, namely, the four great elements and what is caused by the four great elements," and "The eye is an internal source, namely, what is caused by the four great elements, which is form, which is formed, visible, and obstructive." and so on. Then, what is the meaning of the sutra saying, "Whatever is hard and solidified in the flesh of the eye" (the eye and the earth element are one)? That is said in terms of the support of the faculty and the aggregate. And saying, "Bhikkhu, this person is the sixth element" (indicating that there is no sixth element) is also said to show the basis of the substance of sentient beings.
